One should strive with diligence and abide in conscientiousness. One should fully protect oneself by practicing mindfulness and awareness with regard to the objects of learning through body and speech. One should guard the doors of the senses and be mindful of moderation in food. One should not sleep during the first and last watches of the night, but be diligent in practicing yoga. One should rely on virtuous individuals and rely on spiritual friends. One should also fully know one's own mistakes and regard them as faults, and having known and seen the faults, one should abandon them. One should confess one's faults to the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and those who are in accordance with the Dharma. Whatever discipline there is that accomplishes, protects, and increases virtuous qualities in accordance with this, that is called the Bodhisattva's discipline of gathering virtuous qualities. What is the Bodhisattva's discipline of benefiting sentient beings? In brief, it should be known as eleven aspects. What are the eleven aspects? Assisting in various meaningful activities of sentient beings, helping sentient beings who are suffering from illnesses and other afflictions by providing nursing and other forms of assistance, similarly, in matters of both worldly and transcendental significance, prioritizing the teaching of the Dharma, prioritizing the teaching of methods, explaining the reasons, remembering the kindness of those sentient beings who are being benefited, subsequently protecting them, dwelling in closeness by benefiting them in an appropriate manner in return, completely protecting sentient beings from various fearful situations such as lions, tigers, kings, thieves, water, and fire, dispelling the sorrow of those who are in the midst of suffering from possessions and relatives, for those sentient beings who lack resources, accomplishing all resources in a reasonable manner, by giving pure support, thereby completely accumulating the collection of Dharma, by speaking, speaking universally, and making them individually happy, going directly at all times, receiving food and drink etc. from others, behaving in accordance with worldly matters, coming when called, and going when sent, in short, being meaningful.

Apart from all unpleasant behaviors, being in harmony with the mind, and truly rejoicing in the true qualities, whether secretly or with the name already proclaimed. For example, rising from the state of non-virtue, in order to truly grasp the state of virtue, being gentle and beneficial in the heart, and subduing with superior intention, inflicting punishment, or imposing penalties, or expelling, and using miraculous powers to vividly show sentient beings the realms of hell and so on, making them disgusted with non-virtue, and inspiring them to enter the Buddha's teachings, making them feel satisfied, and making them feel amazed. How does a Bodhisattva who abides in the discipline of vows, abides in the discipline of gathering virtuous dharmas, and abides in the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, become a holder of discipline who is good at teaching, a holder of discipline who is good at accumulating virtue, and a holder of discipline who performs all kinds of deeds for the benefit of sentient beings? Here, the Bodhisattva abides in the Pratimoksha vows. If even abandoning the kingdom of a Chakravartin and becoming ordained, he does not look at the kingdom of a Chakravartin in this way, but as one looks at grass or impure things. Just as the Bodhisattva relies on pure intention and does not look at the desires of a Chakravartin, which are the highest of all undesirable things, similarly, an evil person with the intention of survival, having completely abandoned all desires, will not fail to look at those inferior desires. The Bodhisattva sees those desires as entering various terrifying abysses, and truly sees them as they are, therefore, even in the future, he will not rejoice in desires that belong to the realm of Mara, and if they do not make vows and practice celibacy for those desires, then what need is there to mention other divine objects? Even now, a Bodhisattva who has renounced sees the great gains and respect of vast sentient beings as truly like vomit of food.
