And I, along with Brahmins and others, to those families who have never given away things for charity, the Bodhisattva goes, making them very happy and content, saying, 'Hey, come here! Do not be stingy with wealth, but stay close with great benefit. In my house, there are vast enjoyments and vast things for charity. In order to perfect my perfection of giving, I desire beggars. If you encounter beggars, do not refuse to send them away, or take from my wealth and things for charity, and give them as you please. Or bring those beggars to me. I will also rejoice in giving.' Thus he advises them. Having heard that, they, because they are not stingy with wealth, are happy, thinking, 'This noble son will make us happy.' They will also do that. In this way, that Bodhisattva sows in them the seed of eliminating the stain of stinginess in the future. Gradually making them accustomed, those who are skilled in the means of leading with wisdom, therefore, each will also give away small amounts of wealth, and relying on small non-attachment, they will obtain the middle, and relying on the middle, they will obtain the great. Furthermore, if the Khenpo, Acharya, fellow resident disciples, and Brahmacharis of that Bodhisattva are of a nature of attachment and a nature of stinginess, or if they are not of a nature of stinginess but do not have things for charity, and are impoverished by desire, then the Bodhisattva, relying on the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, wanting to do the deeds of merit arising from giving, gives those things for charity to them, and lets them do it, not doing it himself. By doing so, the Bodhisattva himself also accumulates a great deal of merit. The afflictions of some of those Brahmacharis are also subdued. The desire for Dharma of some is also fulfilled, and it will also become a means of gathering and maturing beings.

Furthermore, Bodhisattvas possess the Dharma of giving. If they have possessions, even if they understand the beggar's intention with just a slight hint, they will give whatever is desired. If someone comes with the thought, "This one can be seduced by deceptive means," even if they come towards that, they understand their intention and conceal their other misdeeds, let alone what they are facing. They fulfill their wishes completely, and ensure that they do not become arrogant, but leave satisfied, fearless, and joyful. If someone deceives a Bodhisattva with trickery, and the Bodhisattva did not realize it before, even if they realize it later, they do not speak of or remember that person who deceived them. They rejoice in their hearts for all those things taken by their trickery without being given. Similarly, Bodhisattvas possess the Dharma of giving, and one should know that possessions are the giving of the wise. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas do not necessarily possess the Dharma of giving. Even if they do not have possessions, Bodhisattvas are trained in various crafts and skills, and they manifest those crafts and skills. They accumulate great wealth with small means. Alternatively, Bodhisattvas use various words, pleasant speech, and virtuous courage to make even poor sentient beings willing to give, let alone the rich. Even misers become willing to give, let alone those with the nature of emptiness. In this way, they teach the Dharma to others. Alternatively, Bodhisattvas send beggars who come to them to those faithful households that possess great wealth and are engaged in the Dharma of giving day after day. They themselves go to places of giving and merit-making, and with wisdom, diligence, and ability, they fill their minds with joy, and practice with body, speech, and mind to the best of their ability. In this way, Bodhisattvas give well to the beggars.

Thus it is done. In this way, unevenness, impropriety, or giving through forgetfulness, and disharmony, because of which the giving becomes faulty, will disappear. Thus, a Bodhisattva does not have pure enjoyment until he has attained a completely pure intention. Although he does not possess it, he gives with the giving of the wise. The pure superior intention of a Bodhisattva is such that just as one attains liberation from purification from the lower realms, so in all lifetimes one will attain inexhaustible enjoyment. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva does not preach the Dharma to those seeking opportunities among non-Buddhists, nor does he give scriptures as alms. He also does not give to those who are inherently attached, who desire to sell or hide scriptures, or who do not seek meaning by knowing them. To those who desire to know, if the scriptures have already served my purpose, he gives them as he pleases. If he has not accomplished the purpose of acquiring the scriptures for his own sake, then if that Bodhisattva sees another copy, he gives it. Or he writes another and gives it. If he does not see another copy or is unable to ask, then he should first examine his own mind: "Is my mind not completely entangled by the stain of stinginess towards the Dharma? Is it not just that I do not want to give away the written Dharma from the bottom of my heart?" He should examine in this way. If he examines in this way and knows that he still has some slight habit of stinginess towards the Dharma, then the Bodhisattva will think: "Even if I become mute in this life because of this giving of the Dharma, I should not accept afflictions. I must give the Dharma, let alone not having a collection of wisdom!" Having aroused his mind in this way, he should definitely give the Dharma. If he examines in this way and knows that he does not have even the slightest habit of stinginess towards the Dharma, then the Bodhisattva should train in this way: "I should...
