When distinguished and examined with wisdom, those dharmas examined by reason will not depend on others. When some people have faith, even if their minds do not enter into certain profound dharmas, those dharmas are the realm of the Tathagata. If they do not abandon those dharmas, thinking, "This is not the realm of my mind," then they will protect themselves without being blamed or harmed, and they will be without fault. If a Bodhisattva relies on meaning and not on words, then he will follow all that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have spoken. A Bodhisattva who is skilled in expounding the black dharma and the great dharma cannot be moved or persuaded by anyone regarding that sole meaning. A Bodhisattva who enters the Bodhisattva path from the beginning will obtain the patience that he had not previously obtained. The Bodhisattva who obtains patience and makes it his essence is following meditation. With these eight ways of thinking, one enters the practice of dharmas that are in accordance with the Bodhisattva's dharma. What is meditation? In short, it can be understood as four aspects: calm abiding (shamatha), insight (vipashyana), familiarizing oneself with calm abiding and insight, and delighting in calm abiding and insight. What is calm abiding? For example, because the eight ways of thinking of a Bodhisattva are very complete, he fixes his mind on the object of the inexpressible thing and meaning, and through mindfulness that is free from all elaboration and all mental wandering, he generates faith in all objects. Thus, he places his mind on the signs of inner samadhi, and when he places it correctly, he continuously expands it, makes it one-pointed in samadhi, and establishes it evenly. This is called calm abiding. What is insight? By that very mindfulness of completely cultivating calm abiding, one remembers and distinguishes the signs of those dharmas that are thought about in accordance with reason, and one thoroughly distinguishes the dharmas. From thoroughly distinguishing the dharmas to extensively mastering and entering into wisdom, all that is insight.

It is called "Om." What is familiarity with tranquility and insight? It is constantly combining tranquility and insight and respectfully combining them. What is extreme joy in tranquility and insight? It is that from the characteristics of tranquility and insight, the mind does not waver, and naturally, without manifest awareness, it enters and abides, and gathers without scattering. This is called extreme joy in tranquility and insight. Therefore, as the Bodhisattva becomes familiar with tranquility and insight, so he abides in extreme joy in tranquility and insight. As he abides in extreme joy in tranquility and insight, so tranquility and insight become completely purified. As tranquility becomes purified, so the body becomes extremely pliable, and the mind becomes extremely pliable, vast, increasing, and expanding. As insight becomes purified, so the wisdom vision becomes vast, increasing, and expanding. The activities of meditation end here, that is to say, to eliminate the negative aspects existing in the support, and also to purify the wisdom vision for all knowable things. All the activities of meditation of the Bodhisattva will be accomplished by these four meditations. What is the instruction? In short, it should be understood as eight aspects, that is to say, whether the Bodhisattva wants to instruct someone, or another Bodhisattva, or the Tathagata, whoever he instructs, he must first rely on Samadhi, or search for the mind through the cause of association, and thus know it. After searching for the mind, search for the faculties and know them. After searching for the faculties, search for the intention and know it. After searching for the intention, search for the latent tendencies and know them. After searching for the latent tendencies, in various suitable entrances, either impurity, or loving-kindness, or dependent arising arising from this very cause, or the differentiation of elements, or mindfulness of breathing in and out, he introduces them. After placing them in various suitable entrances, as an antidote to the extreme of permanence that is not well grasped, the Middle
