What is meant by leading to faith through miracles? It is when someone with miraculous powers thinks, "Will these beings see or hear miracles? If they do, they will gain pure intention towards the teachings and will truly practice." With this intention, influenced by the pure intention or pure practice of sentient beings, out of loving-kindness, they show various miraculous displays to sentient beings. Through the faith induced by these displays, those beings gain pure intention or truly engage in practice. What is meant by teaching the Dharma? It is teaching the sacred Dharma that helps those who cannot achieve their own benefit to become true companions in accomplishment, and teaching the sacred Dharma that leads to swift realization of the skeleton meditation and is in accordance with it. What is meant by secretly speaking the Dharma? It is concealing the very vast and profound Dharma from sentient beings who are childish but possess wisdom, and teaching the Dharma that is clear, easy to enter, and easy to enter through skillful means. What is meant by speaking the Dharma distinctly? It is distinctly explaining the very vast and profound subjects to sentient beings who have vast wisdom and have well entered the ways of the Buddha's teachings. What is meant by small effort? It is the lack of constant effort and the lack of respectful effort. What is meant by medium effort? It is the absence of either of these two efforts: the lack of constant effort and the lack of respectful effort. What is meant by great effort? It is possessing both of those two, that is, possessing constant effort and possessing respectful effort. What is meant by attainment? It is taking up, holding, and reciting the Dharma, such as the sutras, out of faith in the Buddha's words, and diligently engaging in these activities. What is meant by attention? It is taking great joy in contemplating the Dharma in secluded places, and thus engaging in understanding the meaning, thoroughly examining it, and making decisions about it. What is meant by meditation? It is taking joy in familiarizing oneself with calm abiding, insight, and equanimity, having first truly understood the causes of calm abiding, insight, and equanimity.

With reverence, one makes offerings as a teacher and preceptor, and also performs various kinds of service. For example, one attends to the sick, and in accordance with the Dharma, one serves with clothing, food, bedding, cushions, and medicine for healing illnesses. One serves by dispelling sorrow and regret, and one serves by dispelling afflictions. Such similar actions are to be understood as performing various kinds of service. What is subduing? By guarding all the afflictions that one possesses, one points out the faults of those who commit small offenses; one rebukes those who commit moderate offenses; and one punishes those who commit great offenses. The pointing out of faults and the rebuking are beneficial and bring happiness to those individuals themselves and to others as well. Expulsion for the sake of recall also brings benefit and happiness to those individuals themselves and to others. Expulsion without recall only brings benefit and happiness to others. For example, when others are expelled for committing offenses, others see this and think not to commit offenses themselves. How does one bring oneself to maturity? By raising oneself from a state of non-virtue and placing oneself in a state of virtue, one also teaches the corresponding Dharma. One should act in accordance with what one says, that is, to accord with one's own words and follow them. To follow the Dharma itself is to accord with the corresponding Dharma and to engage in it accordingly. Otherwise, others might say, "You yourself have not yet risen from a state of non-virtue, nor have you abided in a state of virtue. Why do you think you can cause others to properly accept, encourage, and remember it? You yourself still need to be encouraged and reminded by others, and to be properly led to accept it." One should avoid being spoken to in this way. How does one entrust to others? One entrusts and completely

To cause ripening, to make them act. The act of both is the combination of the two. One acts oneself and entrusts it to others, one should know that it is to make it complete. Thus, with the means of making it complete, the twenty-seven dharmas, the distinctions of making it complete, the six types, the ripening of the senses, the ripening of the roots of virtue, the ripening of wisdom, small ripening, medium ripening, and large ripening, one should know that it is complete and perfect. Among them, who are the people who cause ripening? In short, the bodhisattvas of the six bhumis, the six types of bodhisattvas, cause sentient beings to ripen. The bodhisattva of the bhumi of faith practice, the bodhisattva of the bhumi of pure superior intention and faith practice, pure superior intention, the bodhisattva of the bhumi of entering into practice, entering into practice, the bodhisattva of the bhumi of determination, becoming determined, the bodhisattva of the sixth bhumi of determined practice, entering the bhumi of determined practice, the bodhisattva of the bhumi of ultimate attainment, becoming ultimate. Among them, for those who dwell without lineage, the ripening of going to the good realms is repeatedly reversed and must be repeatedly practiced. For those who dwell in lineage, their ripening is irreversible and does not need to be practiced repeatedly. Among them, with the characteristics of a ripened person, what characteristics and signs distinguish the ripening of sentient beings and make a close indication, the characteristics of ripening are spoken. In short, with the difference of cause and effect, it is of two types. The characteristics belonging to the cause are also two, due to the difference of intention and karma. Therefore, it is said, what is the characteristic? The Shravaka is accustomed to good deeds in the past, when he dwells in small ripening, he has small desire and small effort, and also goes to the evil realms, but he does not attain the fruit of a Shramana in that life, nor does he attain Nirvana in this life.
