When will one perfectly attain Buddhahood? Chapter Three When a Bodhisattva has faith in emptiness, they will not be afraid of Nirvana, nor will they seek Nirvana as their goal. If a Bodhisattva is afraid of Nirvana, it is because their mind is fearful and they have not seen the benefits of Nirvana, and they have abandoned the faith and understanding of seeing its virtues. Such a Bodhisattva will not be able to perfect the accumulation of Nirvana. If a Bodhisattva focuses on seeking Nirvana, they will quickly pass into complete Nirvana. If they quickly pass into complete Nirvana, they will not be able to fully ripen the Buddha's teachings and sentient beings. Therefore, if one does not fully understand the truth of Samsara as it is, and wanders in Samsara with a defiled mind, and is weary of Samsara, seeking to quickly attain Nirvana, and is afraid of Nirvana, and cannot perfect the accumulation of Nirvana, and focuses on seeking Nirvana and quickly passes into complete Nirvana, it should be known that this is a Bodhisattva who is unskilled in the means to attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Enlightenment. If one fully understands the truth of Samsara as it is, and wanders in Samsara with a non-defiled mind, and is not weary of Samsara with aspects such as impermanence, and does not seek to quickly attain Nirvana, and is not afraid of Nirvana, and can perfect the accumulation of Nirvana, and sees the virtues and benefits of Nirvana, and is delighted and does not rush to pass into Nirvana, this is a great means for a Bodhisattva to attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Enlightenment. This means relies on faith in the supreme meaning of emptiness, therefore one should cultivate faith in the supreme meaning of emptiness. This is the summary of the path of learning for a Bodhisattva, which is as follows:

E! It is called "The Great Means of Attaining the Wisdom of the Tathagata." That Bodhisattva, dwelling long in the wisdom of the selflessness of all dharmas, truly understands the inexpressible nature of all dharmas as they are, and does not conceptually discriminate any dharma in any way, except to hold to mere entities or mere suchness. However, he does not think, 'This is a mere entity,' or 'This is mere suchness.' That Bodhisattva practices the meaning. When practicing the ultimate meaning, he sees with wisdom that all dharmas are equal and the same as suchness, and by looking equally at all and having an equanimous mind, he attains the supreme equanimity. Relying on this, when a Bodhisattva applies himself to becoming skilled in all fields of knowledge, he will not become discouraged by all complete exhaustion and the blows of suffering, and by being without physical and mental fatigue, he will quickly and correctly accomplish skill in it, and will also attain great power of mindfulness. Even having become skilled, he will not become arrogant, nor will he hide the example of the teacher from others. He will not become disheartened in all that needs to be mastered, but will be full of enthusiasm, and his entry will be unimpeded. The practice of armor will also become firm, and the more he finds differences in suffering when wandering in samsara, the more he will generate joy in unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The more he obtains special physical qualities, the more he will be without any arrogance towards sentient beings. The more he obtains special wisdom, the more he will completely know fault-finding, contention, much speaking, afflictions, near afflictions, and improper conduct towards others, and having completely known them, he will especially maintain abandonment with his mind. The more he is born with qualities, the more he will not boast of virtue, and he will not seek intellectual gain, profit, and respect from others.

Relying on the wisdom of the Bodhisattva, many benefits related to Bodhi and things in accordance with Bodhi will arise. Therefore, whether those who have attained Bodhi, or those who will attain Bodhi, and all those who have attained Bodhi, rely on this wisdom, and not on inferior or special other things. The Bodhisattva enters into such a state of non-elaboration, and possesses so many benefits, in order to perfect the Dharma of the Buddha himself, and also to truly enter in order to perfect the Dharma of the Three Vehicles for others. Entering in this way, there is no attachment to enjoyments and the body, and in order to make sentient beings completely abandon enjoyments and the body, one also learns without attachment. For the sake of sentient beings, one restrains body and speech, and is very restrained, because one's nature dislikes evil, and one's nature is good and virtuous, so one also learns discipline. For all occurrences of harming others and evil deeds, one is patient, and in order to reduce anger and not harm others, one also learns patience. In order to dispel the doubts of sentient beings, accomplish benefits, and in order to fully grasp the cause of one's own omniscience, one is also diligent or skilled in all fields of knowledge. The mind abides within, and the mind is very calm, and also in order to make the mind abide, in order to completely purify the four Brahmaviharas, in order to accomplish the deeds of sentient beings by playing with the five superknowledges, and in order to eliminate the fatigue arising from manifesting diligence in all skillful matters, one also learns. One is also wise and knows that one supreme truth, and in order to liberate oneself completely from suffering in the future by the Great Vehicle, one also learns to understand that one supreme truth. The Bodhisattva, performing such correct practice, is close to being offered, receiving, and respected by sentient beings who possess virtues. For sentient beings who possess faults, there is a supreme heart of compassion and love.
