It is not conditional giving and non-abiding giving. The distinction of these should be known extensively, just as one should understand from the chapter on giving. With these places and objects, the hands of the Bodhisattvas will be extended, there is nothing higher than this, there is nothing more excellent than this. These five are the places where Bodhisattvas deeply understand the meaning and intention, what are the five? The sutra spoken by the Tathagata, profound meaning, appearing profound, possessing emptiness, and possessing dependent arising due to this very cause, this is the first place. Being skilled in the faults of the Vinaya, and being skilled in liberating from faults, this is the second place. For the mother, correctly and truly establishing the nature of the Dharma, this is the third place. Distinguishing the names and meanings of the Dharma that are intentional and difficult to fathom, this is the fourth place. The Dharma, meaning, definitive word, and detailed distinctions of all Dharmas, this is the fifth place. With these places and objects, the meaning and intention of the Bodhisattvas are deeply understood, there is nothing higher than this, there is nothing more excellent than this. The compassion of the Bodhisattva will initially abandon attachment to sentient beings. Similarly, the compassionate Bodhisattva, for all activities that benefit sentient beings, will engage without hesitation, will not feel weary of that engagement, and will mostly abide in compassion, thus he will abide happily in this life without fault, and will benefit the next life. The virtues of loving-kindness spoken by the Bhagavan, such as poison cannot harm his body, weapons cannot injure his body, etc., know that these compassionate Bodhisattvas also possess these, therefore, it should be regarded as the virtue of the fruit of compassion of the Bodhisattvas. The Bodhisattva's pleasant speech refers to abandoning the four verbal evils in this life, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter, his speech is also true.

Entering into benefiting oneself and benefiting others. A Bodhisattva who speaks sweetly, in this life and the next, his words are trustworthy and worthy of acceptance. Therefore, it should be known that this is the benefit of the fruit of the Bodhisattvas' sweet speech. A steadfast Bodhisattva, even in this life, is always and everywhere free from idleness and laziness. With great joy, one properly takes the vows of a Bodhisattva's discipline. Having taken them, one will not become discouraged. With patience, one benefits oneself and others. In the future, for the deeds of a Bodhisattva, one naturally initiates diligence, and is steadfast, never retreating before it is accomplished. Therefore, it should be known that this is the benefit of the fruit of the Bodhisattvas' steadfastness. Reaching out and The benefit of the fruit of the definitive explanation of the meaning and the profound intention is as follows: It should be understood as the power of generosity and the power of wisdom as described in the chapter on Power. This is the benefit of the fruit of those signs of a Bodhisattva. What is the order of those? First, the Bodhisattva benefits sentient beings with a compassionate heart, desiring to attend to them and do things for them. Then, in order to lead them out of the state of non-virtue and place them in the state of virtue, he speaks reason, makes them understand, and teaches. Similarly, in order not to abandon those who abide in correct practice and incorrect practice, for those who have entered the ranks of sentient beings and are harmed by afflictions, he is able to endure the delusions of various practitioners of incorrect practices. Being so steadfast, he matures some sentient beings through the gathering of material possessions. He matures some sentient beings through the gathering of Dharma. He matures some sentient beings through the gathering of both Dharma and material possessions. It should be known that this is the order of the five signs of a Bodhisattva. The five signs of a Bodhisattva are the six perfections, and from those six perfections

By which perfections are which characteristics of a Bodhisattva gathered? Loving-kindness is gathered by the perfection of meditation. Sweet speech is gathered by the perfection of discipline and the perfection of wisdom. Steadfastness is gathered by the perfection of diligence, the perfection of patience, and the perfection of wisdom. Extending a hand is gathered solely by the perfection of generosity. Definitely explaining the meaning and profound intention is gathered by the perfection of meditation and the perfection of wisdom. Thus, these five characteristics of a Bodhisattva should be understood as being distinguished in five ways: nature, place, the benefit of the fruit, order, and gathering. From the basis of the Bodhisattva's ground, the place of yoga corresponding to the Dharma, the chapter on the characteristics of a Bodhisattva is the first (ends). The summary is: Well done with the end of actions, wise and benefiting others, complete dedication is the last. The Dharma residing in the direction of a Bodhisattva householder or in the direction of a renunciate, in brief, should be known as four aspects. If a Bodhisattva trains in these as a householder or a renunciate, then only quickly will he awaken to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. What are the four? Well done with the end of actions, wise, benefiting others, and complete dedication. Among these, what is the well-done end of actions of a Bodhisattva? That which is definite, purified, constant, and without fault with respect to the perfections. What is the definiteness of a Bodhisattva like? For example, in the act of giving, the Bodhisattva also possesses the Dharma to be given, and the beggar also comes well, whether harming or benefiting, whether virtuous or faulty, he definitely gives. His mind of giving, whether to a human, non-human, ascetic, Brahmin, anyone at all, anyone in the world in accordance with the Dharma
