As before. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva is one who treats the affairs of others as their own and all actions performed for the sake of others appear. This is the fifth extraordinary quality of a Bodhisattva. Possessing these qualities, one is said to possess the extraordinary and wondrous qualities of a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva should be known to have equanimity towards all sentient beings in five ways. What are the five? First, by transforming through the aspiration of generating the mind of enlightenment, that is, a Bodhisattva equally generates this mind for the benefit of all sentient beings. A Bodhisattva has equanimity with a mind endowed with loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. A Bodhisattva has equanimity with a mind endowed with compassion, cherishing all sentient beings as if they were their only child. A Bodhisattva, knowing that all sentient beings are phenomena arising in dependence, and recognizing that the nature of one sentient being is the nature of all, abides with equanimity towards all sentient beings with a mind endowed with the equality of Dharma. Just as one benefits a single sentient being, so too does one benefit all in the same way. Thus, a Bodhisattva abides with equanimity towards all sentient beings with a mind endowed with purpose. It is through these five ways that a Bodhisattva has equanimity towards sentient beings. All the actions of Bodhisattvas benefiting sentient beings can be known as fivefold. What are the five? Striving to show the right livelihood, striving to show agreement in actions that are meaningful but incompatible, providing refuge for the helpless, suffering, and impoverished, striving to show the path to fortunate realms, and striving to show the three vehicles. It should be known that these five are the actions of Bodhisattvas benefiting sentient beings. Sentient beings abide near to benefiting in return for the benefits bestowed by Bodhisattvas in five ways. What are the five? Perfectly uniting oneself with qualities, praising the qualities of others.

Giving to those in need, helping the helpless, suffering, poor, and destitute, making offerings to the Tathagatas, reciting the Dharma spoken by the Tathagatas, inquiring and upholding it, and making offerings to it. These five are bodhi. These five are what a Bodhisattva should always aspire to: What are the five? To please the Buddhas, to receive the six perfections from those Buddhas, not to listen to the Bodhisattva's teachings, to have the power to fully ripen sentient beings in every way, to attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and even after attaining perfect enlightenment and becoming a Buddha, to be in accordance with the Shravakas. The Bodhisattva's efforts to benefit sentient beings result in five ways. What are the five? Here, the Bodhisattva initially only wishes to benefit sentient beings and wishes them happiness. And also truly knows benefit and happiness as they are. Wisdom is not inverted, such as offering, relying, and understanding as previously shown in the chapter on immeasurables. Summary: Correct effort and writing, as well as special actions, transformations similar to merit, as well as the correct and the tamed. All of the Bodhisattva's correct efforts should be understood as being contained within five efforts. What are the five? The effort of following and guarding, the effort of being without fault, the effort of the power of discriminating wisdom, the effort of pure superior intention, and the effort of determination. Among them, the Bodhisattva guards the mind with the effort of following and guarding, and the innate wisdom grasps the dharmas quickly. Guarding mindfulness, mindfulness grasps the dharmas that have been received. Guarding wisdom, wisdom understands the meaning of the dharmas that have been grasped. Guarding correct wisdom, it is the supplement to mind, mindfulness, and wisdom.

By completely abandoning the basis of disharmony, and relying on the basis of dwelling, increasing, and harmony, one will individually realize. Closing the doors of the senses is to protect one's own mind in all ways. Skillfully engaging in accordance with the minds of others is to protect the minds of others in all ways. Therein, the faultless conduct of a Bodhisattva is: not being inverted with regard to virtuous dharmas, being like a blazing fire, immeasurable, constant, and completely dedicating them to Bodhi. The conduct of the power of discriminating wisdom should be observed from all of the stage of practice by faith. The conduct of pure higher intention should be observed from the stage of higher intention and the stage of accomplishing conduct. The conduct of certainty should be observed from the stage of certainty, the stage of certain conduct, and the stage of going to the ultimate. Thus, these five conducts encompass all the true conduct of a Bodhisattva. It should be known that these five are dharmas that are in accordance with the decline of a Bodhisattva. What are the five? They are disrespect towards the Dharma and those who speak the Dharma, carelessness, laziness, relying on and accepting afflictions, relying on and accepting misdeeds, comparing oneself to other Bodhisattvas and generating pride, and generating inverted pride towards the Dharma. It should be known that these five are in accordance with the excellence of the Bodhisattva's dharmas. It should also be known that they are precisely the reverse of those five black qualities in order. It should be known that these five are the Bodhisattva's faults disguised as the qualities of Bodhisattvas. What are the five? They are harming unruly and immoral beings on that basis, feigning conduct and making deportment perfect, obtaining the secret words of worldly renunciates, and those who possess heretical treatises obtaining the benefit of wisdom and being included among the wise, excessively engaging in virtuous deeds such as sinful giving, and craving for those disguised as the true Dharma.
