They will like and rejoice in those, and hold those themselves as essential. Then, when a person is afflicted by illness, his previous illness is calmed by the medicine he takes, but then a new, unprecedented illness arises that needs to be treated with other medicines. Then, that great physician knows that the previous illness has been calmed, but that the latter needs to be treated with other medicines. So, he stops the previous medicinal formula and shows another suitable one. However, the child-like sick person likes the previous medicine and thinks that those are beneficial to him. Whichever great physician shows the previous and subsequent medicines, and explicitly states that the previous medicines are not beneficial for the subsequent illness, they will not believe what he says, nor will they fully trust his words. Similarly, child-like Bodhisattvas and Shravakas should also be understood in the same way. Just like those afflicted by illness, those who are controlled by afflictions, for the great physician, the Dharma taught by the Tathagata, which is even more supreme than the Lama, more supreme than the extremely supreme, clearer than the clear, deeper than the deep, extremely deep, wider than the low, and extremely wide, is taught correctly, filled and subsequently taught, but they do not accept it, nor do they like it, nor do they understand the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma. Therefore, whether it is a Bodhisattva or a Shravaka, who has faith and does not generate doubt or hesitation in anything spoken by the Tathagata, it is like having a chariot with all its parts, tools, and equipment fully equipped. Riding on that Dharma chariot spoken by the Tathagata, like a skilled driver, he will go quickly without delay to where he should go and reach. From the place of the foundational yoga of the Bodhisattva grounds, the seventeenth chapter, the chapter on the aspects of enlightenment.

It should be known that this is a wonderful Dharma. What are the five? Being amiable to all sentient beings for no reason; not being weary of the immeasurable suffering in samsara solely for the benefit of sentient beings; knowing the methods of taming sentient beings who are heavily afflicted and difficult to tame; entering into the ultimate meaning that is extremely difficult to realize; and having inconceivable power. These five are the wonderful Dharmas of the Bodhisattvas, which are not shared by all other sentient beings. These five are not the wonders of the Bodhisattvas. If one possesses which qualities, is one called a Bodhisattva who possesses wonderful Dharmas? What are the five? The Bodhisattva transforms solely into the nature of bliss from the suffering arising from the cause of benefiting others, thereby completely enduring the suffering arising from the cause of benefiting others. This is the first extraordinary aspect of the Bodhisattva. Possessing this, one is called a Bodhisattva who possesses wonderful Dharmas. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva, knowing the faults of samsara and also knowing the virtues of nirvana, rejoices in completely purifying sentient beings, and thereby becomes the nature of bliss, enduring samsara solely for the purpose of completely purifying sentient beings. This is the second extraordinary aspect of the Bodhisattva, as before. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva, knowing the experience of bliss in a non-speaking manner, rejoices in completely purifying sentient beings, and thereby becomes the nature of bliss, solely for the purpose of completely purifying sentient beings, striving to teach the Dharma to sentient beings. This is the third extraordinary aspect of the Bodhisattva, as before. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva rejoices in completely purifying sentient beings, and thereby becomes the nature of joy, solely for the purpose of completely purifying sentient beings, sincerely and completely giving the roots of virtue accumulated through the six perfections to all sentient beings, and not desiring the ripening result of that complete giving. This is the extraordinary aspect of the Bodhisattva.
