Even those afflicted by illness, and those close and friendly to him, this Bodhisattva, in order to properly maintain discipline from attachment to growth, and abide therein, will also cause them to properly hold onto the roots of virtue. Even if the Bodhisattva thus causes them to properly hold on, but if they change and do not enter, then the Bodhisattva, wishing to benefit them, will also show himself to be angry, but not genuinely angry. Wishing to benefit their actions, he will also show his back, but not genuinely turn his back. Wishing to benefit them, he will also inflict some worldly harm on them, but not genuinely wishing to harm them. That Bodhisattva's thoughts and actions are discordant to those beings, but he will also cause those beings to abandon evil and properly enter into holding virtue. Therefore, this method of the Bodhisattva taming beings is called discordant thought. Then, what is the Bodhisattva's method arising from coercion? Here, the Bodhisattva, whether he becomes a master or a king, having become an owner, whether it is his hereditary slave or one conquered and brought in, will say this: Any of my hereditary subjects or those conquered and brought in, whoever they may be, if they break their vows from non-attachment to growth, then I will forcibly deprive them of all the food and clothing they depend on, or have them deprived. Or have them beaten. Or separate them from all my possessions. Or in all of everything, banish them from the country, thus truly punishing them. For that matter, there will also be those skilled at living on leftovers, and those who know the danger as intermediaries. Those beings, also fearing that great punishment, will abandon evil.

Giving, or protection from suffering, or protection from fear, or meeting and separating from the lovely and unlovely, or even a small benefit to pacify illness, or a great one, having done it, knowing and appreciating what was done, to those who wish to repay the kindness, the Bodhisattva repays only by truly taking up the roots of virtue, and promises: worldly trifles are nothing at all. It is said that if you do anything from grasping the other side, to grasping this side, and even widely practicing the true taking up of the precepts, then you have done me a great kindness. Saying this, one hopes to receive repayment from others, truly taking up the roots of virtue, and by this method also causes others to truly enter into the roots of virtue, therefore, this method is called repaying kindness. So, what is the pure method of a Bodhisattva? Here, the Bodhisattva abides on the Bodhisattva ground where he will ultimately become a Buddha, and extremely purely practices the Bodhisattva path, that is, a certain Bodhisattva is born into the heavenly family of Tushita, and he will soon attain unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment in Jambudvipa, we should please him, and not displease him. May we also be born in front of that Bodhisattva, in order to generate the true aspiration of immeasurable beings and to increase aspiration, to be born in the heavenly family of Tushita. And, the Bodhisattva, having passed away from the heavenly family of Tushita, will be born into a noble lineage, or a respected family, such as a royal palace, or a minister's house, where, in order to generate things cherished by beings, he renounces vast desires and manifests. And, in order to transform the aspirations of those beings who are fond of asceticism, he practices asceticism. And, in order to cause other beings to generate a common desire for enlightenment and liberation, he manifests unsurpassed perfection.
