Whatever is the desire for the wisdom of enlightenment, and based on observing sentient beings, whatever does not abandon samsara, and based on fully knowing the aggregates as they truly are, whatever revolves in samsara with a non-afflicted mind, and whatever blazes with diligence based on the desire for the wisdom of the Buddha, this arises from the perfect accomplishment of the inner Dharma of the Buddha, and it should be known as the six skillful means. Furthermore, arising from the complete maturation of outer sentient beings, what are the six skillful means? Whatever skillful means by which a Bodhisattva transforms even the smallest root of virtue of sentient beings into immeasurable fruits; likewise, with little effort, he correctly generates and closely accomplishes vast and immeasurable roots of virtue; likewise, he pacifies the anger of sentient beings who harbor resentment towards the Buddha's teachings, and for ordinary beings, he causes them to enter, for those who have entered, he causes them to fully mature, and for those who have fully matured, he causes them to be liberated. How does a Bodhisattva transform the small roots of virtue of sentient beings into immeasurable fruits? Here, a Bodhisattva, no matter to which sentient being, from all things, even if he gives only a handful of flour to a very inferior field, or even if he gives to living beings born in the animal realm, and after giving, he also dedicates it to the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus, although that root of virtue is small in terms of things and fields, it is also transformed into immeasurable fruits by the power of dedication. How does a Bodhisattva generate vast and immeasurable roots of virtue for sentient beings with little effort? Here, the Bodhisattva proclaims the eight-branch fast to sentient beings, that is, to those who are fond of fasting on the moon and not eating, he shows the abode of the noble ones, and from that abode of great effort and unpleasant fruits, he prevents desire and undertakes the correct little effort.

Furthermore, for those who abide seeking great fruits, one causes them to truly enter. Likewise, for those beings who strive in practices that exhaust themselves, desiring liberation, and entering onto wrong paths, one shows the Middle Way that is free from the two extremes, and causes them to enter into it. Similarly, for beings who desire higher realms, such as those who enter into fire, jump off cliffs, or sit without eating, and who have entered onto wrong paths, in order to enable them to dwell happily in this life, and also in the future to be without hardship, but only with happiness, and with mental happiness, in order to cause them to be born in higher realms, one truly shows correct meditation. Furthermore, for beings who believe that by receiving and reciting the secret words arising from the Vedas, they will attain the ultimate purity, one causes them to truly enter into receiving the Buddha's teachings, reciting them, and contemplating their meaning. Moreover, the Tathagata speaks of profound dharmas endowed with emptiness, and if others hear them, to whatever extent they generate aversion, and to whatever extent they generate faith, one makes them clear and shows them accordingly. Even a mind that has aversion and joy for just a single moment becomes a helper in accumulating vast roots of virtue, so what need is there to mention those that arise continuously? Furthermore, a Bodhisattva, with a superior intention endowed with faith, in the ten directions of the world, with whatever flowers, garlands, and various excellent and abundant incense that exist, believes in offering them to the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and also causes others to believe and act. Furthermore, in all directions, having expanded with that very superior intention endowed with faith, one rejoices in all offerings to the Three Jewels, and also causes others to rejoice. Furthermore, one constantly and uninterruptedly meditates on the recollection of the Buddha, the recollection of the Dharma, and even the recollection of the deities, and also causes others to truly hold them. Furthermore, by paying homage to the Three Jewels with mental recitations, one makes the time meaningful, and also causes others to do so. Furthermore, one rejoices in all the merit of all sentient beings, and also causes others to rejoice.
