Entering into wrong views, not seeing the coming (future), giving without seeing the result, broken morality, teaching the Dharma to others without practice, completely liberated from the lower realms, practicing virtuous Dharma in the lower realms, Bodhisattvas skilled in transforming meditative states, like this, abiding in meditative states and transforming meditative states, if they make aspirations, wherever they wish to be born in the desire realm, they will be born there. Bodhisattvas who have attained mastery, in the ten directions, benefit various sentient beings with various emanations. The Thubpa (Sage), that is, the Tathagata (Thus-Gone One), having completed his own benefit, relying on powers and fearlessness, etc., and all the unmixed Dharmas of the Buddha, performing immeasurable benefits for immeasurable sentient beings, this should also be recognized as purely benefiting others. Therefore, the first two of what was said earlier about purely benefiting others, Bodhisattvas should fully understand and abandon. For that which is not purely benefiting others, one should diligently train. Apart from those ways, and the opposite of those ways, all the Bodhisattvas' benefiting others is related to benefiting oneself, and Bodhisattvas should also train in that. What are the causes of benefit for oneself and others for a Bodhisattva? In short, it should be understood that there are five aspects: the characteristic of being without fault, the characteristic of benefiting, this life, the next life, and pacification. The Bodhisattva himself also completely upholds virtue, doing whatever is virtuous, whether great or small, and also causes others to completely uphold virtue, whether great or small, truly guiding, taming, instilling, and establishing. These should be understood as the characteristics of being without fault, which are the causes of benefit for oneself and others for a Bodhisattva. Whether for oneself or for others, the Bodhisattva provides the happiness of resources, or the happiness of abiding in meditative concentration, or any happiness of abandoning afflictions, whatever it may be, accomplishing these is the cause of benefit for oneself and others for a Bodhisattva, which is the characteristic of benefiting.

It should be understood that this is the nature of earth. Some benefits of the Bodhisattva for self and others are beneficial in this life, but not so in the next life; some are beneficial in the next life, but not so in this life; some are beneficial in both the next life and this life; and some are harmful in both the next life and this life. These four aspects of self and other's benefit should be considered in accordance with the four ways of properly adopting and abandoning, respectively. What are the four ways of properly adopting and abandoning? Some ways of properly adopting and abandoning bring happiness now, but will ripen into suffering in the future; some ways of properly adopting and abandoning bring suffering now, but will ripen into happiness in the future; some bring happiness now and will also ripen into happiness in the future; and some bring suffering now and will also ripen into suffering in the future. The distinctions between these should be understood as explained in the sutras. Among them, Nirvana, and the methods to truly attain Nirvana, the worldly aspects of Nirvana, and the transcendental Dharma, in short, the Bodhisattva's benefit for self and others, the cause of which is peace, should be understood as the supreme and unsurpassed Dharma that transcends all. What is the cause of happiness for the Bodhisattva's benefit for self and others? In short, it should be understood that happiness can be summarized into five types. These five types of happiness are: the happiness of cause, the happiness of feeling, the happiness of counteracting suffering, the happiness of the cessation of the continuum of feeling, and the happiness of harmlessness. Among them, the faculty and object of the aspect of happiness, and the contact that arises from it and transforms into a feeling of happiness, and any action that produces the desired result in this life or future lives, all of these combined are called the happiness of cause. There is nothing higher than this, and nothing more excellent than this. Without relying on the complete pacification of suffering, the experience that benefits the body and mind, arising from the three causes that are summarized as the happiness of cause, is feeling.
