Desire. Because of desiring to obtain one's own benefit, desiring to know all four places. Without a mind of contention, with reverence and without arrogant self-satisfaction, seeking what is good, not for the sake of proclaiming oneself, oneself and others must be joined to the root of virtue, for those who do not seek gain and respect, keeping mindfulness close, one should go to the presence of a Khenpo or Acharya or Lama or a Yoga master like a Lama. Having gone there in due time, one should also seize the opportunity, sit on a very low cushion, drape the upper garment over one shoulder, kneel on the right knee, with reverence. With reverence, Venerable one, I am striving for the meaning of Yoga, for the sake of your compassion towards me, please teach Yoga. Thus, one should request Yoga. The Yogi who has been requested in this way, the Yoga master also says to the first person, the first practitioner, who wants to strive in Yoga contemplation: Well done! You who possess unrestrained beings, are immersed in objects, especially attached to objects, want to strive in mindfulness, want to be liberated from the prison of the lower realms, want to cut the fetters bound by the iron chains of desire, hatred, and ignorance, have entered the difficult path of the great wilderness of Samsara, want to be liberated from the difficult path of the great wilderness, for the great famine of afflictions and non-virtuous roots, want to have a good harvest of virtuous roots, having encountered the great terror of the thieves of afflictions, want to obtain the bliss of Nirvana, afflicted by the great disease of afflictions, want to obtain the completely disease-free Nirvana, being swept by four rivers in all directions, want to be liberated from the rivers, having entered the great darkness of ignorance, want to obtain the great light of wisdom, good, good! 食用有籽之物，依循导师之教诲而行，常怀精进之心。 恒常具备胜观，令空虚之家得以兴盛，勤勉追随自身之利益，行持梵行，不为智者所轻蔑，利益自身，利益他人，利益众多生灵，令众多生灵安乐，对世间常怀慈悲之心，为了利益和安乐天人而趋入，应以柔和之语，如实赞叹，真实欢喜，并宣说出家之利益。如是，应以与此相符之柔和之语，如实赞叹，真实欢喜，并如实宣说出家之利益后，应询问应询问之处的四法，即：具寿，您是否唯一皈依佛、法、僧，不欲此外道之导师或施处？您是否为了修持梵行，首先清净受持戒律，且见解正直？您是否从圣谛之经和分别出发，听闻并受持少量或众多之法？您是否因心向涅槃，欲证涅槃而出家？应询问应询问之处的四法。如是询问后，若彼承诺“如是”，则其后应善加观察四种因之四处，即：应善加观察其发愿，应善加观察其种姓、根器和行为。应以提问善加观察，应以言谈、行为和了知心之差别善加观察。 其中，如何以提问善加观察其发愿？应如此询问：具寿，您以声闻乘、缘觉乘或大乘

Constantly possessing higher vision, making empty homes flourish, diligently pursuing one's own benefit, practicing pure conduct, not being despised by the wise, benefiting oneself, benefiting others, benefiting many beings, bringing happiness to many beings, constantly cherishing compassion for the world, and entering for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans, one should truly praise with gentle words, truly rejoice, and also speak of the benefits of renunciation. Thus, one should truly praise with gentle words that are in accordance with this, truly rejoice, and after truly explaining the benefits of renunciation, one should ask the four dharmas of the place to be asked, namely: Venerable one, have you solely taken refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and do not desire other non-Buddhist teachers or places of giving? Is it that you, in order to cultivate pure conduct, first purely observe the precepts with great purity, and have a straight view? Have you, starting from the sutras and distinctions of the noble truths, listened to and held few or many teachings? Is it that you have renounced because your mind is inclined towards Nirvana and you desire to attain Nirvana? One should ask the four dharmas of the place to be asked. Having asked in this way, if he promises "It is so," then after that, one should well examine the four places of the four causes, namely: one should well examine his aspiration, one should well examine his lineage, faculties, and conduct. One should well examine by questioning, and one should well examine by speech, conduct, and knowing the differences of the mind. Among them, how should one well examine his aspiration by questioning?
