All these eight branches of the noble path, in brief, are what should be done while walking and what should be done while dwelling. Among them, right speech, right action, and right livelihood are what should be done while walking. What should be done while dwelling are of two types: tranquility and insight. Among them, what is right view? What is right thought? What is right effort? These are insight. Among them, what is right mindfulness? What is right concentration? These are tranquility. Thus, relying on the complete purification of right speech, right action, and right livelihood, constantly cultivating tranquility and insight, one can manifest the abandonment of all afflictions and attain the supreme fruit of Arhatship. The path of cultivation is cultivated continuously from other times, thereby abandoning afflictions, so it takes a long time. The path of seeing is that afflictions are subdued merely by the arising of wisdom, so it depends only on wisdom. Therefore, right speech, right action, and right livelihood are established in the path of cultivation. Thus, cultivating and completely purifying the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment in that order is called cultivating the factors of enlightenment. What is the fruit of cultivation? It is said that there are four fruits of a contemplative: the fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, and the supreme fruit of Arhatship. What is a contemplative? What is a fruit? It is said that the path is a contemplative, and abandoning afflictions is a fruit. Furthermore, after the previous one has arisen, the arising of the intermediate path, the superior path, and the wavering path is the fruit. Why are four fruits established? It is said that it is because there are four types of antidotes for abandoning afflictions. For example, afflictions are insubstantial and will lead to going to bad destinies, abandoning the causes of going to bad destinies, and generating antidotes, so it is constant.

The fruit of entering the stream is established. The Blessed One said that the three bonds are obstacles to the arising of the path, because these three aspects, namely the aspect of householders, the aspect of wrongly spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and the aspect of well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, are established because of abandoning the three bonds. Among them, the aspect of householders is the view of the perishable aggregate, because from the very beginning one does not strive, so the view of the perishable aggregate makes one afraid from the very beginning. For the wrongly spoken Dharma and Vinaya, it is holding the precepts and asceticism as supreme, even if one has acted, one will practice wrongly, therefore it will not generate the noble path. For the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, it is doubt, and one will also waver from it, even if one has not entered wrongly, because one is not familiar with it. Therefore, as long as one has not truly seen the knowable objects as they are, then hesitation and doubt will hinder the arising of the path. Therefore, this cause is temporarily established as the fruit of entering the stream. The one who has entered the stream, as expected, still has seven remaining existences. When he purifies the afflictions of the stream of existence contained in the desire for views and the desire for humans, and because he has abandoned these, he attains one heavenly existence and one human existence, then, he is established as the fruit of once-returner. When he abandons the afflictions of the fruit of arising here and returning, and only attains a small amount of heavenly existence, then, he is established as the fruit of non-returner. Having abandoned all the afflictions that will arise in existence, he is established as the supreme of fruits, namely Arhat. The Blessed One said that the fruit of once-returner is also established because of abandoning the three bonds, and weakening desire, hatred, and ignorance. The fruit of non-returner is established because of abandoning the five bonds corresponding to the final part. The fruit of Arhat is afflic

It is established because all afflictions are completely abandoned, and this is called the fruit of meditation. Among them, those who practice desire, hatred, ignorance, pride, and conceptual thought should first tame those who only use the object of separate combination when using it for the first time. After that, the abiding of the mind will be realized, and those objects will only be determined separately. Therefore, they must strive through the object without hesitation. Those who practice equally should strive for those things that are happy only for the sake of the abiding of the mind, and not for the sake of taming the practice. Small afflictions should be understood in the same way as equal practice. The difference between them is that practicing desire, etc., if you work very hard, it will take a long time to realize. Equal practice does not take too long. Small afflictions can quickly realize the abiding of the mind in a short time. Among them, the signs of those who practice desire, etc. have already been said. So, what are the signs of those who practice equally and those with small afflictions? The answer is: For those who practice equally, although all the signs of those who practice desire, etc. also exist, they are not as strong and firm as those who practice desire, etc. If those causes exist, then it appears to be equal. Among them, the signs of a person with small afflictions are unobscured, initially pure, accumulating merits, having great faith, having a gentle mind, accumulating merit, and having qualities. The so-called unobscured means not being obscured by the three obscurations, namely the obscuration of karma, the obscuration of afflictions, and the obscuration of maturation. Among them, the obscuration of karma refers to the five heinous crimes, as well as other heavy karma intentionally committed, the unfruitful maturation of karma, and the karma that hinders the generation of the path. Among them, the obscuration of afflictions refers to strong afflictions and afflictions.
