In order to eliminate fabrication, to eliminate pervasive clinging, and to eliminate latent tendencies, one should properly accomplish whatever virtues are on the side of the antidote. Since all of these are fully shown by the four correct eliminations, this is a concise summary of the meaning. Furthermore, there are four samādhis, namely: the samādhi of aspiration, the samādhi of effort, the samādhi of mind, and the samādhi of investigation. Among these, the samādhi that is attained by making aspiration the dominant condition is the samādhi of aspiration. The samādhi that is attained by making effort, mind, and investigation the dominant condition is the samādhi of investigation. When one temporarily generates only a small portion of aspiration, and after aspiration has arisen, one definitely contemplates all sinful and non-virtuous dharmas from the perspective of their nature, basis, faults, and antidotes, and one makes mindfulness focus on a single point; similarly, for virtuous dharmas, one definitely contemplates them from the perspective of their nature, basis, benefits, and definite emergence, and one makes mindfulness focus on a single point; by repeatedly familiarizing oneself with this, one touches upon singleness by way of making the tendencies of pervasive clinging distant, but one still does not completely destroy the latent tendencies of sinful and non-virtuous dharmas, this is called the samādhi that is dominated by aspiration. When one strives to prevent the unarisen from arising and to abandon the arisen, in accordance with the objects of the past, future, and present that are in accordance with sinful and non-virtuous dharmas, and in accordance with the small, medium, and large pervasive clinging of afflictions, and when one engages in effort, while practicing on that object, one definitely contemplates only what is good from the perspective of the nature, basis, faults, and antidotes of that object, and one makes mindfulness focus on a single point; when one abides in this repeatedly, singleness of mind will arise by way of making the tendencies of pervasive clinging distant, but it is still sinful.

That which completely destroys the latent tendencies of virtuous dharmas is called samadhi arising from its diligence. When the mind sinks, it is strongly restrained; after the mind is strongly restrained, it enters samadhi; it is especially abandoned from time to time. Regarding sinful and unwholesome dharmas and dharmas corresponding to sinful and unwholesome dharmas, as well as wholesome and unwholesome dharmas, and dharmas corresponding to wholesome and unwholesome dharmas, in terms of their nature, basis, faults, benefits, antidotes, and the means of definite arising, one truly knows only what is excellent, focuses on one point, and repeatedly abides in this. By means of distancing oneself from all entanglements, the one-pointedness of mind arises. However, that which does not completely destroy the latent tendencies of sinful and unwholesome dharmas is called samadhi arising from its mind. For those dharmas corresponding to sinful and unwholesome dharmas that are improper attention, those are precisely the dharmas corresponding to wholesome dharmas that are proper attention. Therefore, for those who have distanced themselves from all entanglements, and for those who have generated wholesome dharmas such as samadhi, which is the antidote to all entanglements, if sinful and unwholesome dharmas do not arise, then they think: Do sinful and unwholesome dharmas exist, and not not exist, therefore not being experienced? Or do they not exist, and not exist, therefore not being experienced? I shall completely examine this. Thus, relying on the power of examining attention, one engages in what has been abandoned and what has not been abandoned. One truly knows only what is excellent, focuses on one point, and repeatedly abides in this, thus touching the one-pointedness of mind. Therefore, my mind is only liberated from all entanglements, but not from all latent tendencies. I have obtained the antidotal samadhi and other wholesome dharmas for them,

It is merely meditation; if it is not an antidote to habitual tendencies, then that which thoroughly knows as it is and is without pride is called the samadhi that is made free by its examination. Sravakayana, Volume Twelve. By making those four samadhis free, if all entanglements are distanced, then in order to completely destroy the habitual tendencies of sinful, unwholesome dharmas, and in order to truly accomplish their antidotal wholesome dharmas, one will also generate great desire, make effort, and diligently strive with the four right abandonments. Having diligently striven in this way and having acted in this way, eight kinds of abandoning mental activities will arise. Through them, one can truly destroy habitual tendencies and perfect samadhi. For example, desire is thinking, 'When will my samadhi be perfected, and when will I abandon the habitual tendencies of sinful, unwholesome dharmas?' Effort is not abandoning the practice of cultivating antidotes. Faith is believing and completely trusting in what is to be realized prior to abiding without abandoning practice. In that, extreme pliancy is the utmost joy and delight that is preceded by faith and trust, that is, the extreme pliancy of the evil destinies on the side of sinful, unwholesome dharmas in the order of mental joy. In that, mindfulness is what truly holds the nine states of mind on the side of calm abiding. In that, clear comprehension is the wisdom on the side of insight. In that, attention is the mind manifesting action, that is, the mind manifesting action that examines what has been abandoned and what has not been abandoned, and what causes the bodily and verbal actions that are in accordance with calm abiding and insight to arise completely. In that, equanimity is the mind that is free from all afflictions and makes the mind equal when engaging with those that are in accordance with sinful, unwholesome dharmas that have arisen in the past, future, and present, that is, these two causes.
