The west wind, the north wind, the red wind, the non-red wind, the small wind, the great wind, the pervading wind, the scattered wind, the mandala of wind, the time when a great storm arises, causing the tops of trees to bend, causing the tops of walls to shake, causing the tops of mountains to shake, and after shaking, going away without returning, the clothes of sentient beings, the leaves of palm trees, the wind that is fanned by a fan, and any other winds that are similar to these, these are the external wind element. What is the space element? Having eye sockets, having ear holes, having nostrils, having a mouth, having a throat, with what does one swallow, where does one swallow, with what when swallowing, does the water from below drip, and any others that are similar to these, these are the space element. What is the consciousness element? Eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness. That is also mind, intellect, and consciousness, this is called the consciousness element. If a person is arrogant and dwells on these supremely virtuous elements, the perception of the body as a whole will be destroyed, and an impure perception will be obtained, and one will not be filled with pride, and arrogance will become weak, and one will also purify the mind from arrogance. This is called element analysis, and it is the antidote for purifying arrogance. What is inhaling and exhaling? The mindfulness of the object of inhaling and exhaling, this is called mindfulness of inhaling and exhaling. There are also two types of inhaling, what are the two? Inhaling and inhaling in between. There are also two types of exhaling, what are the two? Exhaling and exhaling in between. Inhaling is, breathing

When entering as a young one, the breath that looks inward, from the direction of the navel up to the inside of the mouth, that which enters, that is called inhalation. Among them, intermediate inhalation is: after the inhalation is cut off, for a short time between the arising of exhalation or not arising, in a state of resting for a short time, the breath that enters similar to that, that is called intermediate inhalation. Just like inhalation and intermediate inhalation, exhalation and that is inhalation. Similarly, intermediate exhalation should also be understood in the same way. Among them, the difference lies in this: the breath that looks outward, from the direction of the navel up to the mouth or the tip of the nose, or from beyond that up to the outside, that which is exhaled outward, it should be said like that. The causes of inhalation and exhalation are two kinds, what are the two? That is, the action of propelling and the navel direction having a gap, or the body having a gap of comfort. The supports of inhalation and exhalation are two kinds, what are the two? Body and mind. What is the reason for that? Because relying on the body, and also relying on the mind, therefore inhalation and exhalation arise. That should also be combined appropriately. If it only arises relying on the body, then it should also arise in those who have entered into the samadhi of non-perception and the samadhi of cessation, and those who are born among the gods of non-perceptual beings. If it only arises relying on sentient beings, then it should also arise in those who have entered into the formless samadhi and sentient beings who have already been born. If it arises relying on the body and also relying on the mind, then that is not reasonable, because if it should also arise in those who have entered into the fourth dhyana samadhi and sentient beings who have already been born, and sentient beings like worms, like maggots, like lizards, then it will not arise, therefore inhalation and exhalation arise relying on the body and also relying on the mind, that should also be appropriately

Homage! There are two ways in which inhalation and exhalation operate. What are the two? The way inhalation operates is downwards. The way exhalation operates is upwards. Inhalation and exhalation are two kinds of sentient beings. What are the two? Those with coarse channels and those with fine channels. Among these, what are those with coarse channels? From the direction of the navel upwards to between the mouth and nose, or from the mouth and nose downwards to the direction of the navel, these are those with coarse channels. What are those with fine channels? They are the pore-holes of the channels that pervade the entire body. There are four kinds of names for inhalation and exhalation. What are the four? Wind, incoming breath, outgoing breath, inhalation, exhalation, and bodily formations. Regarding this, it is like this: the term "wind" is a common name shared with other winds. Apart from that, the other three are not common. There are two kinds of faults in exerting effort on inhalation and exhalation. What are the two? Applying effort too loosely and applying effort too tightly. Among these, applying effort too loosely causes a mind that is lazy and dull, or completely entangled in sleep, or the mind wanders outwards. Among these, applying effort too tightly harms the body or generates harm to the mind. So, how does it harm the body? By exerting too much force, inhalation and exhalation harm the body, causing unbalanced winds to enter the body. These winds initially pervade each and every limb of that person, and these winds are called "pervading winds." When these pervading winds increase, they become causes of disease, and they cause diseases in each and every limb of that person, and this is called harming the body. So, how does it harm the mind? It causes his mind to wander, or discomfort, or be overwhelmed by a great multitude of afflictions. In this way, it generates harm to the mind.
