sa bya'o. Regarding attachment to alms, there are two obstacles: attachment to good food and attachment to much food. Therefore, in order to abandon attachment to good food, one begs for alms. In order to abandon attachment to much food, one sits alone on one seat and does not take food afterward. Regarding attachment to Dharma robes, there are three obstacles: attachment to many Dharma robes, attachment to soft and comfortable Dharma robes, and attachment to good Dharma robes. Therefore, in order to abandon attachment to many Dharma robes, one has three Dharma robes. In order to abandon attachment to soft and comfortable Dharma robes, one wears felt robes. In order to abandon attachment to good Dharma robes, one wears patched robes. Regarding attachment to dwelling places, there are four obstacles, namely: attachment to noise, attachment to dwelling places, attachment to the comfort of relaxation and the comfort of sleep, and attachment to cushions, mattresses, and coverings. Therefore, in order to abandon attachment to noise, one dwells in solitude. In order to abandon attachment to dwelling places, one dwells under trees, in uncovered places, and in cemeteries. Dwelling in cemeteries is also for abandoning attachment to sexual activity. In order to abandon the comfort of relaxation and the comfort of sleep, one sits. In order to abandon attachment to cushions, mattresses, and coverings, one dwells as is, and thus possesses the qualities of practice. How is one adorned? One is adorned by walking gracefully, returning, looking slightly, looking around, contracting, stretching, wearing the monastic skirt, Dharma robes, and holding the alms bowl. Thus, one is adorned. How is one content? Here, when Brahmins and faithful householders entertain one well with Dharma robes, alms, bedding, cushions, medicine for treating illnesses, and utensils, one is content with what is requested. Thus, one is content. How does one possess the Dharma of a great person? One is ordained from a high caste, or ordained from a wealthy family, or has a handsome appearance, or is pleasing to look at, or is beautiful, or is learned, or possesses the ability of speech, or possesses only wisdom, or possesses only sight.

Mama, even if one obtains any state that leads to the experience of happiness, one does not praise oneself or slander others. Instead, one recognizes that the only thing to do is to practice the Dharma in accordance with the teachings, and one enters into the Dharma that is in accordance with the teachings. In this way, one is endowed with the qualities of a noble person. How does one possess the characteristics of a wise person? In terms of the characteristics of action, one is a child; in terms of the characteristics of action, one is a wise person. How is that? A child thinks evil thoughts, speaks evil words, and does evil deeds. A wise person thinks good thoughts, speaks good words, and does good deeds. In this way, one possesses the characteristics of a wise person. How does one possess great patience? One does not retaliate when insulted, one does not become angry when provoked, one does not strike back when beaten, and one does not expose the faults of others when one's own faults are exposed. Moreover, one who has life can endure cold, heat, hunger, thirst, mosquitoes, horseflies, wind, sun, and the touch of poisonous snakes, as well as the harsh words of others and the path of words that bring evil. One can also endure the unbearable painful sensations of the body, which are rough, hot, unpleasant, and life-threatening, and one has the nature of acceptance. In this way, one possesses great patience. How does one possess harmony? Like having loving physical actions, loving verbal actions, and loving mental actions towards the teacher and the wise practitioners of the Brahmachari. One possesses the Dharma and places the offerings obtained through the Dharma into the alms bowl. One shares what has been placed in the alms bowl, without being stingy with food, entering into harmony of discipline, and entering into harmony of views. That is to say, because one possesses those six qualities that bring true joy, love, respect, and non-contention, one is of a nature that is comfortable to be around and without any harm. And the wise practitioners of the Brahmachari are also with him.
