The sections of parables, the sections of accounts of events, the sections of birth stories, the sections of such occurrences, the sections of classes of beings, the sections of vastness, and the sections of wonderful Dharma, whatever is spoken of, that is called the Sutra section. The section of topics of discussion, whatever is spoken of, that is called the Vinaya. The section of definitive teachings, whatever is spoken of, that is called the Abhidharma. Those teachings spoken by the noble ones and those who have gone forth correctly, the twelve branches of scripture, gathered into the three pitakas, those are called the Holy Dharma. Listening to that is called listening to the Holy Dharma. What is that? Like this, here someone holds the Sutra section, or holds the Vinaya, or holds the Matrika, or holds the Sutra and the Vinaya, or holds the Sutra and the Matrika, or holds the Vinaya and the Matrika, or holds the Sutra and the Vinaya and the Matrika, that is called listening to the Holy Dharma. Listening also has two aspects: listening to the words and listening to the meaning. What is thinking? Like this, here someone goes alone to a solitary place, and these six inconceivable places, like this: thinking about oneself, and thinking about sentient beings, and thinking about the world, and thinking about the maturation of the actions of sentient beings, and the objects of meditation of meditators, and having purified the Buddha-fields of the Buddhas, those Dharmas that were heard, thinking about them through their own characteristics and general characteristics. Thinking also has two aspects: thinking about Dharmas in the manner of counting, in the way of counting, and thinking in the manner of measuring, in the way of closely examining the qualities and faults with reason. If one thinks about the teaching that is combined with the aggregates? If one thinks about any other teaching that was previously taught? One thinks in those two ways. How is that? "Form" means the ten form sense bases and whatever form belongs to the Dharma sense base, that is the form aggregate. The three kinds of feeling are the feeling aggregate. The six collections of perception are the perception aggregate. The six collections of formations.

is the aggregate of formation. The collection of six consciousnesses is the aggregate of consciousness. Thus, one should contemplate the enumeration and the manifestation of aggregates in terms of numbers, and understand that contemplating numbers and enumeration through the method of progressively differentiating from above enters in an immeasurable way. How does one contemplate the manifestation of aggregates with a mind that closely examines through reasoning? One closely examines through four types of reasoning. What are the four? They are: the reasoning of dependence, the reasoning of function, the reasoning of establishment, and the reasoning of the nature of phenomena. Among these, what is the reasoning of dependence? Dependence is of two types: dependence of arising and dependence of imputation. Among these, the dependence of arising is that the arising of aggregates, which arises through which causes and which conditions, depends on those causes and conditions. The imputation of aggregates, which is imputed through which collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters, depends on those collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters. This is called the dependence of arising and the dependence of imputation of aggregates. What is the dependence of arising, and what is the dependence of imputation, that is the reasoning, combination, and method of the arising of aggregates and the imputation as aggregates, therefore it is called the reasoning of dependence. What is the reasoning of function? Whatever is produced by the aggregate's own cause and its own condition is connected to its own function, for example, like the eye seeing forms, the ear hearing sounds, and the mind knowing phenomena, and like forms abiding in the field of activity of the eye, sounds abiding in the field of activity of the ear, and similarly, phenomena abiding in the field of activity of the mind, and other phenomena similar to that, whatever is the reasoning, combination, and method of those things functioning on each other, that is the function.
