Doing a little bit of appropriate things is the cause of complete fatigue; from the basis of complete fatigue, untimely sleepiness arises, for that reason, no matter what, it must be made to disappear as quickly as possible, and the aspect of virtue should not be diminished for a long time, and in order not to become an obstacle to the aspect of virtue, one should dispel sleepiness for a moment. There, either close the door oneself, or if there is a monk, let him in, bind oneself with the protection of discipline and the rituals of discipline with the monastic robe, and sit in a secluded place, thinking, 'I will dispel sleepiness.' In this way, that sleepiness will completely disappear in every way. Therefore, like this, starting from walking and conduct, this is the order of acting with mindfulness. When he goes to a house, first he should properly apply his mind, and whatever mind that possesses wisdom is focused, that is called his mindfulness. In this way, possessing mindfulness, whatever accomplishes all walking and practice without diminishing, that is called acting with mindfulness. Regarding this, walking and returning, looking slightly and looking around, contracting and stretching, wearing the monastic skirt and robe, holding the begging bowl, eating, drinking, chewing, and tasting, in these aspects, what is acting with mindfulness? Regarding this, having gone, staying, sitting, lying down, not lying down, speaking, not speaking, and dispelling sleepiness, in these aspects, what is acting with mindfulness?
