It will also become like that. Just as when food is not completely digested, so too is unsuitable food. But the difference is that unsuitable food will increase faults and violently attack from within. Therefore, those who are completely controlled by afflictions will, as before, accept offerings because of actions that are not in accordance with the Dharma, and then enjoy the food with attachment, clinging, infatuation, and bondage. Therefore, one should enjoy food appropriately and not inappropriately. So, this is called treating food appropriately. For example, one should carefully consider and eat food, not for the sake of showing off, obesity, vanity, or decoration. These ways show, clarify, distinguish, and explain in detail how to treat food appropriately. Therefore, one should carefully consider and eat food, not for the sake of showing off, obesity, vanity, or decoration, but to maintain and nourish this body. Therefore, temporarily avoid the situation of having no food. In order to overcome hunger, to help with pure practice, and even to live in comfort, one should think in this way. What has been said above is to avoid unsuitable food. So, how does one avoid unsuitable food? In order to overcome hunger, what has been said is to avoid the situation of having too little food. In order to help with pure practice, what has been said is to avoid the situation of having too much food. In order to eliminate old feelings and to prevent new ones from arising, what has been said is to avoid the situation of food not being completely digested and being unsuitable. In order to nourish oneself and become strong, what has been said is to avoid the situation of having too little food.

It shows the state of not having too much food. The words "I will be happy" show that the food is completely digested and that the food is suitable for the body. The words "I am without fault and will also be in a state of happiness" show that the food is not entirely a source of affliction. Just as some people accept alms in a way that does not conform to the Dharma, become more attached as before, and enjoy with attachment, this is enjoying completely accompanied by affliction and fault. Therefore, by striving through the good aspects of inner correct placement, yoga, focus, receiving teachings, recitation, and thinking about the meaning, those evil, unwholesome thoughts that follow the mind will leak away. Those thoughts will tend towards it, fall into it, and flow into the mindstream of it. Therefore, he will not be in a state of happiness. Being in a state of happiness also has two ways: because of completely abandoning excessive food, so like before, his body will not become heavy, unsuitable for work, difficult to endure, and will not taste the flavor of food. Therefore, he will not be in a state of happiness arising from the disturbance of those thoughts. Therefore, all those words show moderation in eating. This is called the extensive and concise explanation of the knowledge of the measure of food. What is it to strive to practice without sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night? So, what is the upper part of the night? What is the lower part of the night? What is practicing without sleeping? What is striving to practice without sleeping? So, the upper part of the night is this: from the time the sun has just set, until the beginning part of the night, about the time it takes for a fire to burn a teaspoon. So, the lower part of the night is this: at dawn, about the time it takes for a fire to burn a teaspoon. So, what is practicing without sleeping? It is what is accumulated during the day,

Purifying the mind from the dharmas that are obscured by walking and sitting, and also in the first watch of the night, purifying the mind from the dharmas that are obscured by walking and sitting. Having completely purified, then taking it out from the temple, washing the feet outside the temple, and entering the temple, lowering the right shoulder, placing the feet on top of each other, thinking of the perception of light, and maintaining mindfulness and awareness, then lying down. In each watch of the night, one should awaken as quickly as possible, and purify the mind from the dharmas that are obscured by walking and sitting. This is what is said. Therefore, the effort to not sleep is like this: for example, having heard of the non-sleeping practice of the Buddha Bhagavan's Shravakas, wanting to learn it, and acting accordingly, starting from not sleeping, striving to practice the non-sleeping practice allowed by the Buddha. Therefore, following that is desire, diligence, effort, exertion, perseverance, power, action, joy, interest, non-retrogression, and complete absorption of the mind, and continuously engaging in it. So, how does one purify the mind from the dharmas that are obscured by walking and sitting during the day? Day means the time from sunrise to sunset. Walking means walking on a long and not very wide ground, with the physical action of going back and forth. Sitting means like this, sitting on a chair or stool, or sitting cross-legged on a cushioned ground, straightening the body, maintaining mindfulness, that is sitting. Obscurations refer to the five obscurations. Dharmas that are obscured refer to the dharmas that are in accordance with the obscurations, that is, the dharmas that bring about the obscurations. What are those? Desire for desire and hatred.
