If those who lack faith see those rituals and practices that are complete, they will develop faith, and those who have faith will increase their faith, and those who have faith will be even more devoted, without disturbing their minds or uttering words of rejection. Otherwise, even if one possesses discipline, if the rituals and practices are not complete, then the merits and praises that arise from the power of others will not occur, and only the faults opposite to them will arise. As it is said, "Even for the slightest faults, one should be fearful, and one should properly take and study the foundations of learning," this shows the characteristics of the merits and praises that arise solely from one's own power. Why is that? Because, even if the rituals and practices are complete, and one has obtained the merits and praises that arise from the power of others, if one violates the discipline, due to that cause and condition, one will also be born in the lower realms. Needless to say, there will be no opportunity to obtain what has not been obtained as before. Therefore, being fearful even of the slightest faults, and properly taking and studying the great foundations of learning, due to that cause and condition, one will not be born in the lower realms, but will be born in the happy realms of gods and humans, and one will have the opportunity to obtain what has not been obtained as before. Therefore, this self-arising is called the merit and praise of the discipline. In other words, to summarize, the Bhagavan said, "Properly taking the discipline, the discipline that arises from it, and cultivating the discipline." Among them, what is said as "abiding in discipline" shows the proper taking of discipline. What is said as "restrained by the discipline of individual liberation" shows the discipline that definitely arises. Like this, the discipline properly gathered by the discipline of individual liberation is called the higher discipline learning. Relying on the higher discipline learning, higher

That is, practicing the training of higher mind and higher wisdom. Thus, it should be viewed in this way: in order to end all suffering, first abide in the higher training of morality, and it will definitely become the cause of liberation. Therefore, the Pratimoksha vows are called the morality of liberation. As it is said in the scriptures, being complete with rituals and conduct, and even fearing the slightest transgression, properly taking and practicing the precepts, this shows the practice of morality. The morality of the Pratimoksha vows should be practiced in these ways. Practicing in this way is good practice. It should be known that even the morality of the vows alone has six different explanations. The morality of the vows is impaired by ten causes, and conversely, it is perfected by ten opposite causes, which should be understood. What are the ten causes that lead to impairment? They are: taking vows incorrectly from the beginning; being too timid; being too indulgent; being careless; being completely controlled by laziness; having wrong aspirations; being controlled by the decay of rituals; being controlled by the decay of livelihood; falling into extremes; not desiring liberation; and the complete decay of what has been properly taken. Among them, how does one take the vows incorrectly from the beginning? For example, some people are ordained because they are oppressed by the king, or oppressed by thieves, or troubled by debt, or troubled by fear, or because they are afraid and tremble because they cannot survive, not for the sake of practice, not for the sake of Brahman, not for the sake of taming themselves, not for the sake of pacifying themselves, not for the sake of completely liberating themselves from suffering. Thus, it is taking vows incorrectly from the beginning. How is it being too timid? For example, some people have no shame about the precepts, have little remorse, and are lazy and negligent. Thus, it is being too timid. How is it being too indulgent? For example, some people are attached to what should not be attached to, and regret what should not be regretted.

Yes. If one regrets things that should not be regretted, one develops a tormented mind towards other things that should not be regretted, or one generates a universally tormented mind and understands it. If that is the case, then it is excessive. How is one completely overcome by heedlessness and laziness? Like this, some people rely on the past time, and whatever downfall occurs, because they have forgotten it, they have not repented according to the Dharma. Similarly, relying on the past time, just as with the future and present times, whatever downfall occurs, because they have forgotten it, they have not repented according to the Dharma. Even before a downfall has occurred, in order to prevent future downfalls, how should I act, how should I abide, so that future downfalls will not occur? They do not generate a strong interest to act and abide in that way, but rather they will inevitably fall, and they act and abide in that way. They possess the former extreme, the latter extreme, and the middle extreme, as well as past actions and subsequent actions, and thus they possess heedlessness. They possess the pleasure of sleep, the pleasure of lying down, and the pleasure of drowsiness, and they are unwise, lazy, and unindustrious. For those who are wise and practice Brahmacharya, the act of serving the body is not necessary. In this way, they are completely overcome by heedlessness and laziness. How is one considered to have wrong aspirations? Like this, some people abide in morality, asceticism, and Brahmacharya, and they pray: May I become a god, or any god. They practice Brahmacharya, desiring gain and respect, striving to obtain gain and respect from others, and delighting in gain and respect. In this way, they have wrong aspirations. How is one considered to be controlled by rituals? Like this, some people rely on conduct, temporary activities, or the combination of virtuous actions, contradicting the world, and
