Through the power of direct perception and inference, one discerns impermanence. Among these, the five aspects of impermanence with five characteristics previously meditated upon, namely the aspect of change and the aspect of destruction, have already been explained. What then is the impermanence of the aspect of separation? It should be understood that it depends on both internal and external factors. What is it that depends on internal factors? For example, someone who was previously the lord of others, not a servant, not someone to be ordered around, independent, and not a laborer. But at another time, they are separated from the status of being a lord and the status of not being a servant, and become a servant of others, like losing the status of a lord. Similarly, possessing enjoyment, with wealth not diminished or exhausted, but plundered by a king, thieves, or hostile relatives, or exhausted by being hidden in a bad place, or not obtained despite effort. Situations similar to these should be understood as the impermanence of the aspect of separation. What then is the impermanence of the aspect of nature? For example, the impermanence of change, the impermanence of destruction, and the impermanence of separation, even though these have not yet approached at the time they occur, these formations will become such a nature in the future, and similar to such a nature. Therefore, in the future, one will individually realize that they are the nature of complete destruction. What then is the impermanence of the aspect of proximity? It is the comprehensive contemplation of the impermanence of change, the impermanence of destruction, and the impermanence of separation that have already manifested. Thus, in this way, regarding the five aspects of impermanence of internal and external formations, having appropriately contemplated and repeatedly familiarized oneself with these five aspects, and having gained certainty through the reasoning of establishing validity, one then enters into the aspect of suffering. One thinks thus: whatever is the impermanence of formations, its impermanence is reasonably the nature of arising and ceasing.

Therefore, these formations are of the nature of arising, and arising is suffering. Just as arising is, so too are aging, sickness, death, encountering the unpleasant, separation from the pleasant, and not obtaining what is desired, to be understood in the same way. Thinking thus, one temporarily enters the aspect of suffering through the aspect of impermanence. Through the aspects of attachment and bondage, one enters the aspect of suffering with respect to feelings of pleasure and corresponding contaminated aggregates and aggregates of grasping. That is to say, these are the places of attachment to craving, and the attachment to craving is also the place of bondage to birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance, as well as the bondage of desire, hatred, and delusion. Through the aspect of the impure, one enters the aspect of suffering with respect to aggregates that are in accordance with suffering. That is to say, phenomena that are in accordance with suffering are contaminated, associated with grasping, associated with displeasure, associated with affliction, not liberated from suffering itself, impermanent, and of the nature of cessation. With respect to that, through the aspects of non-establishment and non-pleasure, one establishes as the aspect of suffering that which is neither suffering nor pleasure, and the corresponding aggregates. That is to say, that which is neither suffering nor pleasure, and the corresponding aggregates, are contaminated, associated with grasping, associated with affliction, endowed with the seeds of pleasure and suffering, associated with suffering, not liberated from the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change, impermanent, and of the nature of cessation. Thus, the yogi is like this: through the aspects of attachment and bondage, he enters into the suffering itself that transforms from the formations that are in accordance with pleasure, and from the feeling of pleasure. That is to say, through the aspect of the impure, the formations that are in accordance with suffering...
