Or he himself, or seeing the prosperity and decline of others, he thinks thus: Like this, this change caused by the prosperity and decline of these inner formations, is only apparent, alas, these formations are impermanent. He thinks thus, therefore he completely seeks the impermanence of this change caused by the prosperity and decline of inner things. So, how can one completely seek the impermanence of this change caused by the completeness and incompleteness of the limbs and parts of inner things? Here, he himself or sees the limbs and parts of others were previously complete, but at some later time, a king, a thief, a human or a non-human makes them incomplete. Having seen, he thinks thus, this change caused by the completeness and incompleteness of these limbs and parts is only apparent, alas, these formations are impermanent. He thinks thus, therefore he completely seeks the impermanence of this change caused by the completeness and incompleteness of the limbs and parts of inner things. So, how can one completely seek the impermanence of this change caused by the complete fatigue of inner things? Here, he himself or sees the bodies of others previously running, winning, jumping, climbing, or engaging in various strenuous activities are completely fatigued, the body is completely exhausted, but at other times, he sees them without complete fatigue and complete exhaustion. Having seen, he thinks thus, like this, this change caused by the complete fatigue of these inner formations is only apparent, alas, these formations are impermanent. He thinks thus, therefore he completely seeks the impermanence of this change caused by the complete fatigue of inner things. So, how can one completely seek the impermanence of this change caused by the harm done to inner things by others? Here, he himself or sees the bodies of others harmed by others, such as whipping.

or a horsewhip, or a bamboo whip, or being struck by a flail. Similarly, one sees transformations caused by various touches such as flesh flies, long-beaked flies, scorpions, snakes, and so on. At other times, one sees that those transformations are absent. Having seen this, one thinks, "Thus, these internal formations, these kinds of changes arising from harm done by others, are only manifestly apparent. Alas! These formations are impermanent!" Thus, one thoroughly seeks the impermanence of the changes arising from harm done to internal objects by others. How does one thoroughly seek the impermanence of changes arising from cold and heat in internal objects? Here, when the time of cold arrives, one sees oneself or others with bodies stiffened, bodies shrunken, and threatened by the all-encompassing embrace of cold, desiring warmth. When the time of warmth arrives, one sees no stiffening of the body, no shrinking of the body, the body burning, the body scorched, the mouth parched, tormented by thirst, and desiring the touch of coolness. Having seen this, one turns back again. When the time of cold arrives, one sees the same kinds of states as previously described. Having seen this, one thinks, "Thus, these internal formations, these kinds of changes arising from cold and heat, are only manifestly apparent. Alas! These formations are impermanent!" Thus, one thoroughly seeks the impermanence of changes arising from cold and heat in internal objects. How does one thoroughly seek the impermanence of changes arising from the manner of conduct of internal objects? Here, in the conduct of oneself or others walking, sitting, standing, or lying down, sometimes one sees that any manner of conduct is harmful to oneself or others, and sometimes one sees that those very actions are beneficial. Having seen this, one thinks, "Thus, these internal formations, these kinds of changes arising from the manner of conduct, are only manifestly apparent. Alas!

He thinks that these formations are impermanent. In this way, he completely seeks the impermanence of change arising from the behavior of internal objects. How does he completely seek the impermanence of change arising from the touch of internal objects? Here, when he touches with a touch that brings about a pleasant feeling, when he experiences the pleasant feeling that arises dependent on the touch that brings about a pleasant feeling, he completely cuts off the moment when he himself feels pleasure. Just as the moment of feeling pleasure is, so too are suffering, and the moment of feeling that is neither suffering nor pleasure. Those feelings are also different from each other in succession, constantly renewing, arising and then ceasing, temporary, not lasting long, and seeing them change. Having seen them, he thinks like this: Like this, from the touch of these internal formations, such changes appear manifestly, alas, these formations are impermanent! He thinks like this, and in this way, he completely seeks the impermanence of change arising from the touch of internal objects. How does he completely seek the impermanence of change arising from the afflictions of internal objects? Here, he fully understands all occurrences of his own or others' minds, whether with or without desire, with or without hatred, with or without delusion. And, if the mind is defiled by any of the near afflictions, he fully understands that it is defiled by the near afflictions; and if it is not defiled by the near afflictions, he fully understands that it is not defiled by the near afflictions. Having seen those afflictions and near afflictions successively afflict and change the mind-stream, and not change it, he thinks like this: Like this, from the afflictions of these internal formations, such changes appear manifestly, alas, these formations
