Through its remembrance, it is grasped and not forgotten, and wherever it has gone, stood, sat, lain down, and the coarse conduct previously experienced, all of these will not confuse the order, nor will they be reversed, all of these can be extensively and correctly remembered, and correctly and completely known. By familiarizing with these, the result of cultivation is that one can extensively and correctly remember the previous abodes of various forms, together with the forms and locations. Among these, the perception of sound that gathers various forms is a village, a town, a place of craftsmanship, a crossroads, a crowd of people, a house covered by a water dam, or any dwelling place, wherever beings gather, from those places various sounds arise, which is the sound of clamor. Or it could be the sound of a great river flowing. To this, taking the characteristic of the perception to be cultivated, and establishing it in the mind through attention, one can focus the mind on the center, the borderlands, and the distant and near sounds of gods and humans. By doing this many times, the result of cultivation will be the attainment of the divine ear, by which one will be able to hear the distant and near sounds of gods and humans. Among these, the perception of the characteristic of visible form is, as before, taking the characteristic of appearance and attending to that characteristic. And taking the characteristic from sentient beings of various distinctions, such as those who perform good and non-good deeds, and attending to that characteristic, this is called the perception of the characteristic of visible form. By familiarizing with these, the result of cultivation will be the attainment of knowledge of death and birth, with the pure divine eye, one will be able to extensively see the situation of being born among the gods in the heavens of the good realms after the body is destroyed and dies. Among these, the perception of the transformation of form caused by afflictions is that with which desire, hatred, ignorance, anger, resentment, concealment, and complete deception

Miserliness, deceit, cunning, shamelessness, immodesty, and other afflictions and near afflictions that bind sentient beings, one discerns and completely cuts off their physical states. The state of form transformed by attachment is like this: for example, the senses are coarse, the senses appear like reeds, and the face smiles. The state of form transformed by hatred is like this: for example, the complexion changes, the voice trembles, and angry lines gather. The state of form transformed by delusion is like this: for example, one becomes dull, unable to understand the determined meaning, and only utters meaningless words. Like this, various forms similar to this, and the transformations of form bound by shamelessness and immodesty, taking the signs from those states of form, and focusing on those signs, through repeated practice, the result of cultivation is the arising of wisdom that understands the various states of mind. Therefore, one is able to truly know the discernment and discrimination of other sentient beings and individuals. Furthermore, the cultivation of the concepts of liberation, mastery, and totality should be understood as taught earlier in the stage of calm abiding and insight. By cultivating these, one can accomplish the miraculous powers of the noble ones, namely, transforming objects, manifesting, and faith, such as, without affliction, knowing as desired, and the four kinds of specific understanding, namely, understanding of specific dharmas, understanding of specific meanings, understanding of specific words, and understanding of specific eloquence. The difference between the miraculous powers of the noble ones and the non-noble ones is this: the miraculous power of the noble ones is like this: any object

And whatever transformations are made, and whatever is emanated, and whatever is emanated from, and those who have faith in whatever, all those things do not change into anything else, they are just as they are, because they are able to act. The magical powers of non-Aryas are not like that, they only show appearances, like the emanations of a magician. Thus, these twelve kinds of attention should be fully relied upon and practiced. If practiced many times, like this, the five kinds of clairvoyance will be obtained as appropriate, and the qualities of the Aryas, which are not common to ordinary people, will also be accomplished as appropriate, it should be known. Among them, if one meditates on the first dhyana, small, medium, and large, then one will be born sharing the same fate as the gods of Brahma's retinue, Brahma's attendants, and Great Brahma, respectively. If one meditates on the second dhyana, small, medium, and large, then one will be born sharing the same fate as the gods of limited light, immeasurable light, and clear light, respectively. If one meditates on the third dhyana, small, medium, and large, then one will be born sharing the same fate as the gods of limited virtue, immeasurable virtue, and abundant virtue, respectively. If one meditates on the fourth dhyana, small, medium, and large, then one will be born sharing the same fate as the gods of cloudless, meritorious birth, and great fruit, respectively. If a noble non-returner cultivates the four formless absorptions that are without outflows and with outflows alternately, and also cultivates them as small, medium, large, very large, and extremely large, then, like this, one will be born sharing the same fate as the gods of the five pure abodes: Non-great, Non-afflicted, Excellent View, Manifestation of Abundance, and Akanistha. If one meditates on the sphere of infinite space, infinite consciousness, nothingness, and neither perception nor non-perception, small, medium, and large, then one will also be born sharing the same fate as the gods who approach the sphere of infinite space, infinite consciousness, nothingness, and neither perception nor non-perception. Since those gods are formless, therefore there is no distinction of other places for them, but there is a distinction of abiding.
