Since it will not occur in all of everything, therefore, it is said "do not attend to various kinds of thoughts." The meaning of "thinking that space is infinite" is that, indeed, in this way, after destroying form, obstruction, and various kinds of thoughts, one believes in the form of infinite space, therefore, it is said "thinking that space is infinite." The meaning of "cultivating the sphere of infinite space, abiding" is that it completely transcends the proximity concentration, and because of attending to the ultimate yoga, it is able to enter into the actual basis of the fruit of the ultimate yoga of the higher one, therefore, it is said "cultivating the sphere of infinite space, abiding." Until one enters into the actual basis, it only focuses on space. Even after entering into concentration, it also focuses on space itself and the aggregates of oneself other than that. At the time of proximity concentration, it also focuses on the aggregates of the lower ground. In all forms, it completely transcends the sphere of infinite space, thinking "consciousness is infinite," cultivating the sphere of infinite consciousness and abiding, regarding what is said, in all forms, it completely transcends the sphere of infinite space, the meaning of "consciousness is infinite" is that that consciousness believes in infinite space, that consciousness itself that believes in the form of infinity towards space, wanting to enter into the sphere of infinite consciousness, returning from the thought of the sphere of infinite space, believing in that consciousness itself in the form of infinity, and completely transcending the actual basis and proximity concentration of the sphere of infinite space, therefore, it is said "it completely transcends the sphere of infinite space in all forms, thinking consciousness is infinite." The meaning of "thinking consciousness is infinite, cultivating the sphere of infinite consciousness and abiding" is that it completely transcends the proximity concentration of the sphere of infinite consciousness, attending to it until the ultimate yoga, because of the ultimate yoga

When engaging in the actual substance of the fruit, it is said that one strives to abide in the realm of infinite consciousness. Having completely transcended the realm of infinite consciousness, thinking, "There is nothing at all," one cultivates the realm of nothingness and abides therein. It is said that he moves beyond the realm of infinite consciousness and seeks any object other than consciousness, whether it is with form or without form, but does not find it. When he does not find that object, he completely transcends the very substance of the realm of infinite consciousness, along with its proximate cause. He believes that there is no other object and becomes devoted solely to the notion of nothingness. Because he has repeatedly devoted himself to that notion, he completely transcends the proximate cause of the realm of nothingness. By directing his mind to the ultimate union, he engages in the actual substance of the fruit of the ultimate union. Therefore, it is said that he completely transcends the realm of infinite consciousness, thinking, "There is nothing at all," and cultivates the realm of nothingness and abides therein. Having completely transcended the realm of nothingness, he cultivates the realm of neither perception nor non-perception and abides therein. That which is said, "Having completely transcended the realm of nothingness," means that he moves beyond the realm of nothingness and perceives the notion of the realm of nothingness as coarse, and, perceiving the faults therein, he turns away from the notion of the realm of nothingness. Therefore, it is said that he completely transcends the realm of nothingness. "Without perception" means that when he previously engaged in the realm of nothingness, he had completely transcended the notion of "nothing at all," and now he has completely transcended the notion of nothingness. Therefore, it is said "without perception," referring to the absence of both the notion of "nothing at all" and the notion of nothingness. "Not without perception" refers to...

Its understanding is like this: For example, like the state of non-perception or cessation, it is not that everything is completely stopped in every way, but that perception is very subtle and enters without being characterized by an object, only in that way. Therefore, it is called "neither perception nor non-perception." To accomplish the birth place, the so-called "abiding" means that when one develops faith in that birth place in this way, one completely transcends the essence of the nothingness birth place and its proximate cause, and by focusing on the neither perception nor non-perception birth place and its proximate cause, until reaching the ultimate union, one abides in the essence of the fruit of the ultimate union. Therefore, it is said that having completely transcended the nothingness birth place in every way, one accomplishes and abides in the neither perception nor non-perception birth place. When entering into meditative states, signs appear such as the body sinking into the ground. When entering into formless states, signs appear such as the body leaping into the sky. If one places them in equanimity with the aspect of calm abiding, that is the correct union. There are two kinds of mindlessness samadhi: the samadhi of non-perception and the samadhi of cessation. Among these, only ordinary beings enter into the samadhi of non-perception. Only noble ones enter into the samadhi of cessation. For those two kinds of attention, one enters into those two samadhis, that is, through attention that does not tend towards perception, one enters into the samadhi of non-perception. Through attention that moves from the birth place of neither perception nor non-perception and whose object is completely ceased, one enters into the samadhi of cessation. Among these, perception is a disease, perception is a boil, perception is a dart. For example, this non-perception is peaceful, this is excellent. That is to say, it is completely attention that does not tend towards perception.
