The place where it is taught, having completely transcended the occasion, without interruption, because the place of non-occasion teaching is obtained, therefore it is said, "The mind stream has become one." What is called "no investigation, no analysis" is because investigation and analysis have been completely abandoned in all aspects, therefore it is called "no investigation" and "no analysis." What is called "no analysis." What is called "from samadhi" is from the samadhi of ultimate union. What is called "born" refers to what is truly born immediately after that cause and that condition, so it is said, "born from samadhi." What is called "joy and happiness" is because the meaning of desire and hope is obtained, and joy is not regarded as a fault, so it has true great joy and has mental happiness, and because it is separated from all the investigation, analysis, afflictions, and evil destinies of the first dhyana, as its antidote, the mind and body are extremely tamed and have the happiness of being able to work, so it is called "joy and happiness." What is called "cultivating and dwelling in the second dhyana," what is called "second" is because it is counted according to the order. Everything else should be understood as before. He dwells in equanimity, free from attachment to joy, and is mindful and aware, experiencing happiness with his body. The noble ones call him who is mindful, dwells in happiness, and practices equanimity, that is, it is said, "Dwelling in the third dhyana without joy," in which "he is free from attachment to joy" is because he regards the signs of joy as faults, therefore it is said, "he is free from attachment to joy." What is called "dwelling in equanimity" refers to the time when the mind is focused on the third dhyana without joy. The two faults that completely distract his mind, namely the investigation and analysis of the second dhyana, and the present joy, have been separated, therefore it is said, "dwelling in equanimity," these two dharmas that completely distract the mind are obstacles to the mind's continuous dwelling in equanimity.

Therefore, it is called that which completely disturbs the mind. Among them, the first dhyana has investigation and analysis, so it will not constantly enter into equanimity. The second dhyana has joy, so there also it will not constantly enter into equanimity. Therefore, the first dhyana and the second dhyana do not have much equanimity, so the meditator who enters the third dhyana is called abiding in equanimity. It is said to be mindful and aware, because when he abides in equanimity, how the mental activity associated with joy arises, it will not universally occur, like that, like that, he abides in mindfulness closely. If the third dhyana is not well practiced, because of forgetfulness, if there is fainting in a hundred, the mental activity associated with joy arises, quickly, quickly, with wisdom, he distinguishes them one by one. Very well, very well, he completely knows, and does not accept all that arises, but abandons it. He dispels it. He purifies it and puts the mind in equanimity, therefore it is said to be mindful and aware. It is said that the body experiences pleasure, because at that time the physical body and the mental body separately experience the pleasure of feeling and the pleasure of extreme pliancy, therefore it is said that the body experiences pleasure. The noble ones say that whoever is mindful, abides in pleasure, and is in equanimity, because below the third dhyana there is no such pleasure, and there is no constant abiding in equanimity. Above the third dhyana there is equanimity, but there is no such pleasure. Like this, the lower ones do not have pleasure and equanimity, and the upper ones do not have pleasure, like this, this third dhyana is their place, therefore, the noble ones also take it as their object, and for the individual who abides in it, whoever is mindful, abides in pleasure, and is in equanimity, the noble ones refer to the Buddhas and the Shravaka disciples of the Buddha. Good!
