For example, parents, children, wives, male servants, female servants, laborers, those who live on wages, friends, ministers, relatives, and all possessions held outside of marital relations, as well as the coarse, tangible body within, born from the cause of the great four elements, nourished by rice and warm porridge, constantly anointed, washed, and relied upon with massage, all these arising things, which have the nature of separation, dispersion, and destruction, are not only for alleviating suffering. Alleviating the suffering of hunger is food. Alleviating the suffering of cold and covering the place of shame is clothing. Alleviating the suffering of sleep's drowsiness, as well as the suffering of desire and dwelling, are bedding and cushions. Alleviating the suffering of illness is medicinal treatment. Therefore, these desires are merely for alleviating suffering. Do not indulge in these with attachment, nor be attached, just as a sick person relies on a doctor to pacify the illness. The reliable testimony is also the same. The more coarse these desires are, the more one can enter into wisdom and vision. The act of inference is also the same. Because the nature of these desires is the Dharma-nature that has existed since beginningless time, it is an inconceivable Dharma-nature. Therefore, do not contemplate these, nor discriminate, and seek the reason in this way. Therefore, just like this, through the six elements, from individually understanding desires as having a coarse nature in this way, to individually understanding the first dhyana as having a peaceful nature. Because in the first dhyana, the coarseness of the desire realm does not exist in any way. Therefore, the first dhyana is peaceful because it is separated from reason itself. In this way, one understands the first dhyana as having a peaceful nature. With the attention of the samadhi ground, one understands desires as having a coarse nature, and the first dhyana as having a peaceful nature.

The cause of arising is the attention that individually knows the characteristics. This attention should also be known to be mixed with hearing, thinking, and harmony. Therefore, after fully understanding such desires, one should completely seek the first dhyana, and truly transcend hearing and thinking with the nature of coarse and peacefulness, and believe in the form of single practice, and practice samatha and vipassana with that self-image as the object. How to completely seek when practicing, and also repeatedly pacify those coarse and peaceful characteristics, that is the attention that arises from faith. Completely rely on it and become familiar with it. Due to repeated practice, only at the beginning will the path of abandoning afflictions arise, and the attention that corresponds to the one who has truly arisen on the path of abandoning afflictions is the extremely secluded attention. Therefore, at first, abandoning the afflictions that act in the desire realm, and being separated from the evil realms of that side, therefore, below it, one likes to abandon, and likes extreme solitude, Seeing abandonment as a benefit, and touching the joy and small happiness that arise from extreme solitude, for example, in order to abandon agitation and sleep, and with the attention that is extremely joyful from time to time, one is truly extremely joyful, and with the attention that is completely weary, one is completely united, that is the attention that gathers joy. Thus, when diligently striving for the joy of abandonment and the joy of practice, whether it is the cause or the place, when the afflictions entangled with the thought of obstructing the combination of the good side do not arise, then one thinks like this: Do I not enjoy the desire to have desires for all desires? Or is it because I don't have it that I can't enjoy it separately? Thinking like this and wanting to fully observe it, one pays attention to any sign that has become extremely faithful, because one has not completely abandoned everything of the remaining sleep, when one pays attention to that sign, one tends to rely on it and
