Those that are in accordance with what is suitable, and those that are neither suffering nor pleasure. Among these, those that are in accordance with the place of pleasure are the place of desire for sensual pleasures, as well as the perverted perceptions and the place of the perverted mind. Those that are in accordance with the place of suffering are the place of hatred, as well as the place of anger and resentment. Those that are in accordance with the place that is neither suffering nor pleasure are the place of concealment, irritation, deceit, cunning, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, and the place of perverted views. Thus, sensual pleasures are those that possess feelings of great harm and are possessed of afflictions of great harm. Thus, one should completely seek the own characteristics of all desires. How does one completely seek the general characteristics? All these desires are connected and abide equally and similarly between the suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, and the suffering of being deprived of desires. Those who enjoy desires, who possess great wealth of desires, are also not liberated from the nature of birth and so on, so their wealth is also not unreal. Thus, one should completely seek the general characteristics of all desires. How does one completely seek all aspects? These desires belong only to the aspect of oneself, like a skeleton of bones, a lump of flesh, a grass lantern, a pit of burning firewood, a venomous snake, a dream, a false ornament, and the fruit of the Kimapaka tree. When sentient beings seek desires, they will also experience many sufferings arising from seeking desires, sufferings arising from guarding, sufferings arising from the complete decay of friendship, sufferings arising from not knowing satisfaction, sufferings arising from lack of freedom, and sufferings arising from misconduct. All these should be understood as before. The Blessed One also spoke of five faults that depend on desire.

Desires are of little enjoyment, but of much suffering and many faults. Relying on various desires, one is never satisfied. One does not know contentment and there is no end to satisfaction. The noble ones, the perfectly gone ones, and the holy beings have condemned desires in many ways. Relying on desires, all connections increase. Therefore, there is nothing whatsoever that can be done with sinful, unwholesome things. Therefore, those desires are unsatisfying, numerous and common, unlawful, the cause of bad conduct, increasing desire and craving, worthy of being abandoned by the noble ones, quickly destroyed, dependent on conditions, a place of carelessness, impermanent, accumulating, accumulating, false, of a frivolous nature, like an illusion, enticing children. Therefore, whatever desires of this life, whatever desires of the next life, whatever desires of the gods, whatever desires of humans, those are the realm of demons. Those are the food of demons. For those, it is like this: greed, malice, wrongdoing, and various sinful, unwholesome actions arise, and they are obstacles to those noble hearers who study this path. These desires are mostly of such a nature that they belong purely to the dark side in many ways. Therefore, one should seek them out in this way. How does one seek out time completely? Those desires, in the past, future, and present times, and in eternal and continuous times, are so harmful, with so many obstacles like leprosy, and with so many faults. Therefore, one should seek out time completely in this way. How does one seek out reason completely? Desires are collected through great effort, complete effort, great labor, and various kinds of work and crafts. They are accomplished and increased. Those that are well collected, well accomplished, and well accumulated
