He thinks. Does that person not think of the container filled with butter, and does not think of the executioner holding a sword, but thinks of the beautiful woman of the village or the many people? Please, venerable one, do not think so. Why is that? Because he sees the executioner holding a sword following closely behind. He thinks to himself: If I drop even one drop of oil from this container filled with butter on the ground, then the executioner holding a sword will cut off my head. Therefore, that person does not think of the beautiful woman of the village or the many people, but focuses all his attention on the container filled with butter, only thinking of being careful and cautious, and thinking only of death. The Blessed One said: Monks, in the same way, if someone focuses all their attention on the four mindfulnesses, respects, honors, and practices them, then they are my hearers. Among them, the so-called "beautiful woman of the village" refers to the Dharma that is closely related to attachment and other afflictions. The so-called "skilled in singing, dancing, and music" refers to the Dharma that is in accordance with discrimination, proliferation, and turmoil. The so-called "many people" refers to the synonym for the ten characteristics such as form. The so-called "non-childish person" refers to the synonym for a yogi practitioner. The so-called "container filled with butter" refers to the synonym for the mind that is tamed in body and mind, and focused on tranquility with the meaning of smoothness. The so-called "executioner holding a sword" refers to the synonym for previously regarding characteristics, discrimination, and afflictions as the characteristics of faults. The so-called "not letting a single drop of oil spill, carefully guarding" refers to distraction.

I. By focusing on the complete knowledge of non-distraction, it is the essential instruction of the path of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā that is completely grasped. Therefore, gradually and ultimately, through the power of diligence, make that mind-stream and all mental continuities become signless, non-conceptual, and peaceful. Do not generate even a single thought that focuses on signs, concepts, or afflictions that are close at hand. The yogi should also instruct the beginner who is diligently practicing Śamatha in this way: "O fair-faced one, you should strive to completely grasp and remember in this way through skillful means. As much as you diligently practice the path of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā, endowed with mindfulness and awareness, and as much as your mind becomes joyful, you should meditate on the path of Śamatha itself." If, due to the fault of not being accustomed, it appears unpleasant and accompanied by disturbance, and it seems necessary to exert effort, then at that time, quickly arise from the object of non-conceptualization and direct mindfulness towards the object of conceptualization. You should contemplate with Vipaśyanā, following only the signs of the unattractive signs you have previously taken, such as from swelling and decay to the skeleton of bones. When striving in this way, first focus on one swollen object, and therefore, you should thoroughly familiarize yourself with it, making it bright and also generating faith in that object. Therefore, with two, three, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, one hundred, one thousand, and countless swollen objects, fill all directions and corners with limitless forms of swollen objects, believing that even the space between them is devoid of a form the size of a mustard seed. Just as with the swollen object, you should also have faith in the skeleton of bones in the same way. The sixteenth volume of the Hearer's Ground. You should rely on the faith you contemplate and make it real.

And again, one should engage in contemplation, entering in this way: The contemplation of pus and the intervals of bones, compared to that, from the beginning of my past, in existence and in those sentient beings, when I die, transmigrate, and am born, those that have died and passed away, becoming pus, and those that have become intervals of bones, are extremely immeasurable, and the beginning of those is invisible. If those that have become like that, some were collected and collected, even if they did not decay or rot, there would be no place to put them. If there were someone who collected those from pus to the intervals of bones for one kalpa, the heap of those collected would be like a mountain. Just as it is from the beginning of the past, so too is the end of the future, until suffering is exhausted. In that way, you will enter into proper contemplation by relying on contemplation. By striving diligently in higher vision, one should not look at pus and the intervals of bones once, but only contemplate one pus, and then calm the mind, until joy and clarity appear in that object, without disturbance or complete entanglement, and without needing to strive, until then, contemplate the pus. Then, until the object needs to be strived for, calm the mind inwardly as it is, and just as with pus, so too with the intervals of bones and the immeasurable intervals, recognize them in the same way. After calming the mind inwardly and truly calming it, contemplate again, and therefore, at the end of everything, the mind manifests collection, thereby placing the immeasurable pus and the immeasurable intervals of bones, placing them in the nature of non-appearance, and also not abandoning or discriminating
