Furthermore, concerning this, for example, regarding the complete and perfect realization of the Tathagata or the Shravaka disciples of the Tathagata, I too will later realize such excellence, one should generate faith and make the mind exceedingly joyful. In this way, those aspects, whatever your previous great joy was, that is great joy. What is done now is called mental joy, and in this way, one causes them to grasp the characteristics that correspond to this. After causing them to grasp, one further demonstrates in this way. Good face, come here! You have already wearied the mind with the characteristics that cause all weariness, and you have manifestly moistened the mind with the characteristics that correspond. Therefore, in order to abandon worldly greed and displeasure, you should abide many times, and whichever object of focus of the side of calm abiding or the side of insight, that object to which one applies oneself well, your mind will abide, and will also abide correctly within, and you will attain extreme pliancy of body and mind, and also one-pointedness of mind. Thus, for example, by applying oneself well and manifestly moistening, not turning to the black side, but manifestly turning to the white side, you should again, in this way, take the characteristics of faults closely to the characteristics, discriminations, and near afflictions. Among these, the characteristics are the ten characteristics, such as the characteristic of form. The discriminations are the eight discriminations, such as the discrimination of desire. The near afflictions are the five, such as intense desire for desire, and to these one says: These characteristics are what distract the mind. These discriminations are what delight and disturb the mind. These near afflictions are what do not pacify the mind. Whatever distracts the mind with characteristics, whatever delights and disturbs with discriminations, whatever does not pacify with near afflictions, those are darkness, and the mind abides in suffering. Therefore, these characteristics, discriminations, and near afflictions are suffering.

Non-noble ones are subject to harm, namely, a distracted mind, universal disturbance, and universal affliction. Take this as a fault. Having thus taken the mark of fault, for single-pointedness of mind, abiding of mind, abiding of mind, and non-distraction of mind, one should apply these six aspects of attention: namely, attention to the signless, and attention to the non-distraction of the signless. Attention to the non-conceptual, and thus to the non-elaboration of the non-conceptual, and attention to the non-universal disturbance, and attention to the near-pacified, and to the near-pacified without all suffering, and to the trustworthy, and to the mark of attention to the ugly. Having thus taken the mark, furthermore, in this case, from the light of a lamp, or from the light of a pile of fire, or from the circle of the sun, take the mark of appearance. Having thus taken the mark of appearance, go to the charnel ground. Namely, from the decomposed, or from between the bones of the skeleton, take the mark of the unpleasant. If not from the charnel ground, then even from a painted picture, or from wood or from clay, take the mark of the unpleasant. Having thus taken the mark of the unpleasant, go to a quiet place, or stay in a monastery, or stay under a tree, or stay in an empty house, wash your feet and sit cross-legged on a bed or on a bed or on a grass mat, straighten your body and place your mindfulness in one direction. Having thus sat, first of all, direct your mindfulness only to single-pointedness of mind and to non-distraction of mind. There too, one should apply six aspects of attention, namely, attention to the signless, and attention to the non-conceptual, and attention to the near-pacified, and attention to the non-distracted, and to the non-elaborated, and attention to the non-universal disturbance, and to the absence of all suffering and to the trustworthy, and to the attention to the ugly. There, you should settle your mind and focus on fully knowing distraction and non-distraction. Distraction and non-distraction

Directing the mind towards the complete knowledge of absence, thereby fully knowing the absence of distraction towards signs, conceptualizations, and proximate defilements, as well as towards that and those, and towards single-pointedness of mind, and towards being endowed with the cultivation of the six consciousnesses. Also, fully know the absence of distraction. With regard to distraction and absence of distraction, you should, by all means, closely apply yourself to single-pointedness and closely apply yourself to the pacification of the inner mind. Gradually, the continuum of mind and all aspects of mind will become without signs, without conceptualizations, and proximately pacified. Thus, direct your mind. When you have thus attained a pacified mind, if, due to forgetfulness and the fault of unfamiliarity, signs, conceptualizations, and proximate defilements appear, show the way, and become objects of focus, then with regard to all of those, like this, by the power of the faults previously seen, do not remember and do not pay attention. Like this, by not remembering and not paying attention, if that object is broken down and sought, then it will be closely placed in the nature of non-appearance. Since the beautiful-faced object is subtle and difficult to realize, you should intensify your desire and effort in order to realize it. The Bhagavan also, referring to that object, said: "Monks, the so-called village beauty, village beauty, is a place where many people gather. If that village beauty is also supremely skilled in dance, song, and music, then many people will gather extensively. There, if a person who is not of childish nature comes, someone will say to him: 'Hey, man, do not lose this vessel filled to the brim with oil, carry it to the village beauty and among the many people. A executioner with a drawn sword will follow behind you. If you let even a single drop of oil fall from this dark vessel onto the ground, then, therefore, this executioner with a drawn sword will cut off your head from your throat.' Monks, what about this?
