and so on, are afflictive conceptualizations. Among these, self-grasping refers to, with regard to wisdom, vision, and touch, slightly or somewhat obtaining oneself, thinking, "I have obtained it, others are not like that," generating pride as before. Know that this is the nature of obscuration. Among these, the basis for being completely afflicted is sixfold, namely: due to the power of past karma, being completely afflicted by illness and the body becoming weak, excessive exertion, perverse exertion, initial exertion, many afflictions, and being accustomed to solitary places. The basis for obscurations, conceptualizations, and self-grasping is to improperly attend to and repeatedly cultivate those dharmas that are in accordance with obscurations, in accordance with conceptualizations, and in accordance with self-grasping. This is the basis for obscurations, conceptualizations, and self-grasping. Here, "improper" means that without attending to the unattractive, one attends to the attractive. Similarly, without attending to loving-kindness, one attends to the signs of anger; without attending to the perception of light, one attends to the signs of darkness; without attending to calm abiding, one attends to the conceptualizations of agitation and the conceptualizations of regions; attending to past playfulness, laughter, joy, and enjoyment; and merely by this cause, following dependent origination, with regard to the activities of the three realms, generating the thought of "this is me" or "this is mine" through improper attention. This is what is meant here by "improper." So, what are the faults? If these four obscurations exist and do not disappear, there will be non-attainment of what has not been attained, loss of what has been attained, loss of yogic practice, being in a completely afflicted state, being in suffering, self-reproach, reproach by others, and falling into the lower realms after the body breaks down and dies. These are the faults. The fifteenth chapter of the Hearers' Vehicle. So, what is the antidote to cultivate? Among these, the antidote to being completely afflicted is mindfulness.

It is pure, and by attending to mindfulness, making that mind truly rejoice, eliminating the suffering that has arisen, and preventing the suffering that has not yet arisen. For those with weak bodies, those who are too diligent, and those who are diligent at the beginning, the antidote is diligence in the nature of diligence itself. The antidote for those who are diligent with evil wisdom is to respectfully inquire of them. The antidote for those with many afflictions is to cultivate the objects of ugliness and so forth, as appropriate. The antidote for those who are not accustomed to solitude is to contemplate individually in this way: "I have practiced before, so now, when I am extremely diligent in solitude, suffering will arise. If I do not become accustomed to solitude now, such an existence will arise again in the future. Therefore, after examining each separately, I should abandon displeasure and rejoice." In this way, contemplate each aspect separately. The antidote for the remaining obscurations is to refrain from improper attention and to recognize that proper attention is cultivation. After fully knowing the nature of that, from the door of obscurations, from all afflictions, and from the black side, "This is what should be completely abandoned." Having abandoned the basis in this way, that will also be completely abandoned. In this way, seek the basis completely. If it is not completely abandoned, what fault is there in what should be completely abandoned? Therefore, seek out its faults completely. How will that which is completely abandoned not arise later? Therefore, cultivate the antidote. In this way, the mind is completely tamed from the definite obscurations. The more explanations there are that are in accordance with higher vision, the more higher vision there is. The more higher vision there is, the more calm abiding there is. That higher vision should also be known as limitless because the knowable is limitless. In this way, the three doors and the six bases of differentiation, the aspects of each of them, and the manner of entering into the differentiations, and so forth. How, how correctly and extremely
