Aging and death are also the same. If there is no feeling, craving will not arise. If any feeling ceases, craving will cease. If someone asks, just as consciousness arises from the condition of formations, so too should this principle be viewed in the same way. Eleventh fascicle. Among those eight doors of dependent origination that have been explained, how many doors are thoroughly divided by the twelve limbs of dependent origination, and how many are not? Three doors are thoroughly divided by it, and a part of two is thoroughly divided. One is thoroughly divided by the entire limb. The rest are not thoroughly divided. The door of the arising of consciousness and the door of karma as self are partially divided. The door of beings entering the world is thoroughly divided by the entire limb. If someone asks, how many faults are there to be observed in not understanding dependent origination? There are five: the arising of the view of self, and the arising of views associated with the past extreme, just as the views associated with the past extreme, strongly clinging to views associated with the future extreme, and those associated with both past and future extremes, accompanied by grasping, accompanied by complete suffering, and not completely passing beyond sorrow in this life, this is the fifth fault. If someone asks, what benefit should be observed in understanding? The five reversals of those faults are the benefits to be observed. Among these twelve limbs, how many limbs are substantial? It is said: Nine. How many are not substantial? Those that remain. How many are of the nature of one substance? Five. How many are of the nature of multiple substances? Those that remain. How many are the cause of the obscuration of knowledge? One. How many are the accomplisher of suffering? Five. How many are the essence of suffering? Those same five. How many are suffering itself? Two. How many are shown as the entity of cause? How many are shown as the entity of effect? How many are shown as the entity mixed with cause and effect? The above six, from ignorance to contact, and craving, grasping, and existence, these are shown as the entity of cause.

Nato. The last two are considered the substance of the fruit. Feeling is considered mixed, because the cause of contact in the next life becomes the cause, and the cause of craving in this life becomes the fruit. Since both arise from the cause of contact, they are considered mixed. Among the limbs, which ones produce the fruit of suffering and non-suffering? Among the limbs, which ones produce the fruit of karma? The first six produce the earliest fruit. The last three produce the latest fruit. One produces both of those fruits. Which ones have pleasant feeling? Those other than the two limbs. Which ones have painful feeling? Those themselves, and one limb from relinquishment. Which ones have neither painful nor pleasant feeling? This should also be viewed like pleasure. Which ones do not have feeling? One is the limb of relinquishment. Among the limbs, which are included by the suffering of change? Whatever has pleasant feeling, and one part of whatever limb does not have feeling. Which are included by the suffering of suffering? Whatever has painful feeling, and one part of whatever limb does not have feeling. Which are included by the suffering of conditioning? Whatever is included by the suffering of change and the suffering of suffering, those are also included by the suffering of conditioning. Is there anything included by the suffering of conditioning, but not included by the two sufferings that are not conditioning? Whatever is neither suffering nor pleasure, and those that have it, and one part of whatever limb does not have feeling. Do all the limbs apprehend in all arising and samadhi in the manner of universal application? It is said that they do not apprehend, because in non-perception and cessation samadhi, and in non-perceptual samadhi, they apprehend those with form, but do not apprehend those without form. Form

For those born in the formless realms, one focuses on the formless aggregates, not on the aggregates with form. If one relies on the limbs, can one hear what is separate from the limbs? It is said: At that time, one can only hear what is separate from one part of the limbs, but not what is completely separate from all the limbs. Because by relying on the limbs of the higher grounds, one becomes separate from the lower grounds. Among these limbs, how many are afflicted, and how many are not afflicted? Three are afflicted, and the rest are of two kinds. Those that are not afflicted are virtuous. One should regard them as two different kinds by the distinction of the unspecified. How many are associated with desire? All are completely gathered. How many are associated with form? One part of all. How should aging be viewed there? It is the decay and deterioration of conditioned things. Just as it is associated with form, so too is it the same with association with the formless. How many are learners? None. How many are non-learners? None. How many are neither learners nor non-learners? All. If the virtuous limbs are with outflows, are they not learners? It should not be so, because they belong to entering the path. The virtuous limbs of learners with outflows are incompatible with entering the path, and because they arise from the cause of wisdom. How much has the stream-enterer abandoned? One part of all, nothing is completely abandoned. Just like the stream-enterer, so too is the once-returner. How many limbs has the non-returner abandoned? All that is practiced in the desire realm. What is practiced in the form and formless realms is uncertain. How many limbs has the Arhat abandoned? All that is practiced in the three realms. In these sutras, in how many ways did the Blessed One teach dependent origination? In short, there are six ways: teaching arising in accordance, teaching not arising in accordance, teaching one part of the limbs, teaching all the limbs, teaching the dark side, and teaching the white side. The Blessed One with depend
