And without abandoning the unpleasant and so on, and also observing the harm from others and so on. Why is it said here that birth is only a condition? Because the root of those conditions is also birth, and even if those conditions do not exist, old age and death are caused by birth. Among these twelve limbs, which limbs are the path of affliction? Which are the paths of karma? Which are the paths of suffering? Three are the path of affliction. Two are the path of karma. The rest are the path of suffering. Which are only the cause? The first one. Which are only the result? The last one. Which are only the cause and the result? The rest. There are other ways to answer this question. Three are only the cause. Two are only the result. The rest should be regarded as both cause and result. What are their respective characteristics? What are the mixed characteristics? Three are their respective characteristics. Actions and others are mixed characteristics. If actions and so on are mixed characteristics, why are they shown as two types? Because suffering produces the fruit of non-suffering, and the difference in the power to accomplish going. Consciousness, name and form, and one aspect of the six sense sources are also mixed characteristics. Why are they shown as three types? Because it is the time of complete affliction, the time of pouring out, and the time of entering. From consciousness and so on to feeling, and birth and death are all mixed characteristics. Why are they shown as two types? Because the characteristics of painful things are shown to be different, and the distinctions of throwing and manifesting accomplishment are fully shown. What is the meaning of the destruction of dependent origination? What is the meaning of the impermanence of those who are born? What is the meaning of combination? What is the meaning of the collection and union of conditions? What is the meaning of birth? What is the meaning of each arising separately when conditions are gathered and fully grasped?

It is. What is dependent origination? What is dependent origination itself? Whatever is the nature of arising of actions, that is dependent origination. Whatever is born, that is called dependent origination. How many of the limbs are included in the truth of suffering, and become suffering in this life? Two, namely birth and old age and death. How many are included in the truth of suffering, and only become suffering in the future? Those that become seeds, from consciousness to feeling. What is included in the truth of the origin? The remaining ones. Is ignorance a condition for the co-arising of actions? Or is it an immediately ceasing condition? Or is it a condition that has ceased for a long time? Answer: It should be seen that all three can be conditions. The co-arising is an obstructing condition for the dharmas that are in accordance with the actions, because it is the cause of the arising of the actions, that is, not knowing. The immediately ceasing is a condition. Because of the ignorance accompanied by wrong views and carelessness, it establishes the corresponding continuum of that arising in the future, so it should be seen that the long-ceased is also a condition that can lead. How should actions be seen as the three conditions of consciousness? Because of the complete training in the manner of seeds, it becomes a co-arising condition. Because it acts after that, the immediately ceasing is a condition of birth. Because the fruit is manifested and accomplished in the future, it becomes a condition that can lead. Just as actions become conditions of consciousness, consciousness is a condition of name and form, name and form are conditions of the six sense bases, the six sense bases are conditions of contact, and contact is a condition of feeling, so it is. How should feeling be seen as the three conditions of existence? The co-arising should be seen as a condition of attachment. The immediately ceasing, because it follows the activities of completely searching and so on by its power, is a condition of birth.

It will also transform. Because it leaves behind habits that are difficult to break free from in the future, even things that have been interrupted for a long time will become the cause of initiation. How does craving become the cause of grasping in three ways? Because it has desire and attachment, it becomes the cause of craving and clinging to those things that should be taken, therefore, it becomes a co-emergent cause. Immediately after, because it can control, it becomes the cause of arising. Because it leaves behind habits that are difficult to break free from, even things that have been interrupted for a long time will become the cause of initiation. How does grasping become the cause of existence in three ways? The co-emergent cause is because it will accomplish the destination of that karma, therefore, it will become a co-emergent cause. With its power, it will become the cause of guiding consciousness and so on to the place of rebirth, therefore, immediately after it will become the cause of arising. Because it will become the cause of having the power to accomplish the realm, even things that have been interrupted for a long time will become the cause of initiation. How does existence become the cause of birth in three ways? The co-emergent cause is because it is completely perfumed in the manner of a seed. Immediately after is because it enters by its power, so it will become the cause of birth. Even things that have been interrupted for a long time will become the cause of initiating the manifestation and accomplishment of that fruit. Just as existence becomes the cause of birth, birth becoming the cause of aging and death should also be viewed in the same way. Existence can be divided into two types, the main part is the karma that is completely contained by grasping, just as mentioned before. All the parts are the karma and consciousness, etc., up to feeling, becoming seeds, those that are completely contained by grasping, should be regarded as existence. So, is the branch of existence, such as these from action to old age and death, only the end of becoming causes in sequence? Or are there others? In this way, the second function of all things is to enter their respective objects, and this should be viewed in this way. Is ignorance only the cause of actions?
