And liking to dwell in the wilderness, having no harmonious speech, being content with only small and bad things. What are the faults of the afflictions? One should recognize many kinds of faults, namely: when afflictions arise, they initially completely defile the mind, reverse the object, rely on habits, cause the continuum of similar causes to enter, harm oneself, harm others, harm both, generate suffering in this life and the next life, and in both this life and the next, the mental suffering and discomfort that arise from this, experiencing suffering, accomplishing sufferings such as birth, making the distance from liberation far, completely falling away from virtuous dharmas, diminishing enjoyment, becoming depressed when entering a crowd, having no joy, having no fearlessness, having a bad reputation in all directions and corners, becoming famous in sounds and verses, being condemned by the noble ones, dying in regret, falling into evil destinies and evil paths after the body is destroyed, being born in the hells of sentient beings, and not obtaining one's own benefit. What is the complete defilement of karma? In summary: nature and difference, cause and situation, doors, weight and reversal, names and faults. One should also recognize the nature of all karmas, the difference, cause, situation, door, weight, reversal, name, and fault. What is the nature of karma? When any dharma arises, the characteristic of manifest action also arises, and when it arises, the manifest action of the body and the manifest action of speech follow, this is called the nature of karma. What is the difference of karma? It should be viewed in two ways: the difference of the nature of the person and the difference of the nature of the dharma.

These are also the paths of the ten karmas, both virtuous and non-virtuous, namely, killing and refraining from killing, taking what is not given and refraining from taking what is not given, sexual misconduct and refraining from sexual misconduct, lying and refraining from lying, divisive speech and refraining from divisive speech, harsh speech and refraining from harsh speech, idle chatter and refraining from idle chatter, covetousness and refraining from covetousness, harmful intent and refraining from harmful intent, and wrong view and refraining from wrong view. Among these, regarding the establishment of the characteristics of a person, it is like what is said in detail, "He is a killer," as it appears in the sutras. Among these, "He is a killer" is a term of teaching. "Violent" means that the mind of killing and harming is close at hand. "Hands stained with blood" means that the body has changed in order to accomplish secret deeds. "Attached to killing and cutting" means that after separating from life, the limbs are cut apart one by one to be used as means of livelihood. "Shameless" means creating one's own faults. "Engaged without compassion" means accomplishing unpleasant things for others. There are some naked ascetics who say, "Within a hundred yojanas, whatever living beings exist, they should not be restrained." As an antidote to their view, it was said, "For all sentient beings." Again, they say, "Like this, external objects such as trees have become living beings." As an antidote to their view, it was said, "For living beings and creatures." In this way, the merit of abandoning is also shown as an antidote, and the non-merit of abandoning is also shown as an antidote. These words, as explained above, completely show killing with obvious intention. Even the words "for the sake of even ants and other small creatures" completely show killing that is difficult to protect against. "Not having abandoned killing" means that until one has abandoned it, life
