No. What is meant by annihilationism? For example, here there are some ascetics or Brahmins who observe in this way and speak in this way: 'As long as I, who am possessed of form, coarse, and made of the four great elements, remain, dwell, and live, I am accompanied by illness, accompanied by boils, accompanied by pain, accompanied by fever, accompanied by all kinds of suffering. When I die, I am annihilated, destroyed, and cease to exist, then I become completely annihilated.' The gods who dwell in the desire realm, the gods who dwell in the form realm, the formless realm, even up to approaching the sphere of infinite space, and approaching the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, are also the same. Thus, the seven annihilationist views are explained in detail in the sutras themselves. Why do they observe in this way and speak in this way? Because of scripture and reason. Scripture is as before. What is reason? For example, here there are some logicians, as mentioned before. They think to themselves: 'If I exist after death, then there will be the fault of obtaining deeds without having done them.' If I do not exist at all, then there will be no one to experience the fruits of karma.' Seeing that both of these are not feasible, they say that after death I am annihilated, destroyed, and cease to exist. Just as broken tiles cannot be restored, and broken stones cannot be restored, so too, one should observe in this way.' They observe in this way and speak in this way. To this, one should say: 'Do you want the aggregates to be annihilated, or do you want the self to be annihilated?' If you want the aggregates to be annihilated, then the aggregates are impermanent, and since cause and effect continue from one to another, it is not right to say that they are annihilated. If you want the self to be annihilated, then the self is possessed of form, coarse, made of the four great elements, accompanied by illness, accompanied by boils, accompanied by pain, accompanied by fever, accompanied by all kinds of suffering, and the gods who dwell in the desire realm, the gods who dwell in the form realm, the formless realm, even up to approaching the sphere of infinite space, and approaching the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception.

It is not appropriate to focus on that. In that case, it is also not acceptable for the aggregates to be cut off, and for the self to be cut off. Therefore, this statement is not generated by reason either. What is it that says there is nothing? For example, here some renunciates or Brahmins say there is no giving, no offering, and it should be elaborated, until it says there are no Arhats in the world, like observing in this way and speaking in this way. Also, they say that everything is non-existent with all characteristics, observing in this way and speaking in this way. Why do they observe in this way and speak in this way? Because it is done by relying on scripture and reason. Among them, the scripture is as before. What is the reason? For example, here some are not sophists, which is also as before. They rely on worldly meditation, and see that some people give alms throughout their lives, and when they die and pass away, they are reborn into lower castes, poverty, miserliness, and places without wealth. They think to themselves: there is no giving, no offering, no fire offering. Also, some people see that some people practice well or practice badly throughout their lives, and when they die and pass away, they fall into bad destinies, bad migrations, and are born into sentient hells, or they are born into happy migrations, the world of gods in the heavens. They think to themselves: there is no good practice, there is no bad practice, and the ripening of the fruits of the actions of good practice and bad practice does not exist. Also, some are born from the royal caste into the Brahmin caste, the Vaishya caste, and the Shudra caste, or from the Brahmin caste into the royal caste, the Vaishya caste, and the Shudra caste. The Vaishya and Shudra castes are also the same. They think to themselves: from the other world to this world, there is no change from the royal caste, etc., to the royal caste, etc. From this world to the other world, there is no change from the royal caste, etc., to the royal caste, etc. Also, they see that some who are free from desire are born underground, and they also see that a daughter is born from a mother, or a mother is born from a daughter, or a son is born from a father.
