It is not right to do so, therefore, this statement is not produced by reason. What is the characteristic of not doing for the sake of Dharma should also be stated: whatever action is done to kill others, and does not act as an antidote to wrongdoing in this life, that is not done for the sake of Dharma. Among all strange things, whatever is known as an ugly result, whatever all the wise ones have definitely said is unwholesome, whatever one does not like, whatever is produced by an afflicted mind, whatever is connected with knowledge mantras and auspiciousness, whatever is not indicated by nature, those are not done for the sake of Dharma. What is it to say with or without end? For example, here are some ascetics or Brahmins who, relying on worldly meditation, perceive the world as having an end, perceive it as having no end, perceive it as having both, perceive it as having neither, as it appears extensively in the Sutra itself, from the world having an end to neither having an end nor not having an end, they observe and speak in that way. Here too, the reason and the person should be understood as before. So, will the edge of the world be cut off at the end? Or will it not be cut off? One should seek correctly. When one remembers the eon of destruction, then the idea of having an end arises. When one remembers the eon of formation, then the idea of having no end arises. When one correctly perceives the edge of a vast place, when one does not see below beyond the Avici hell, and does not see above beyond the fourth dhyana, and sees all other places directly, then the idea of having an end arises below and above. Directly, the idea of having no end arises. The opposite side, which is inconsistent with that, also clings to the difference of letters, but not to the difference of meaning, and the idea of not having an end and not having no end arises. One should say this: on the other side of the eon of destruction, do you think the world has arisen? Or do you not think so? If

If it exists, the statement "the world has an end" would not arise. If it does not exist, then it exists in the world, and it should not be said "recollecting the end of the world." In this way, saying that the things of this shore exist and the things of this shore do not exist is not acceptable. Therefore, this statement is not produced by reason either. What is the statement of abandoning gods and humans? It is like this, there are four kinds of statements of abandoning gods and humans, which should be understood as explained in detail in the Sutra itself. Those are, if asked about the good and non-good of the path of higher realms, and the suffering, origin, cessation, and path of the path of definite goodness, one vows, thinking, "I am one who abandons gods and humans." When asking questions of those deathless, completely pure gods, for those questions that should not be abandoned, they ask there, and with words, they shift the blame to each other, refute, or abandon in a way that reconciles. Among them, one abandonment is solely due to immaturity. The second is having pride in realization. The third is mature but not completely certain. The fourth is having weak knowledge and being extremely foolish. Among them, the first is because of fear and dread of lying, and because of fear and dread of having things one does not know, so one does not clearly answer that one does not know. The second is afraid of what one has realized, because of fear and dread of debating and examining, fear and dread of lying, and fear and dread of wrong views, so one does not clearly answer that one knows. The third is because of fear and dread of wrong views, fear and dread of lying, and fear and dread of debating and examining, so one does not clearly answer that one is uncertain. Those people, because they shift the blame to each other there, abandon with words. The fourth is only afraid of debating and examining, even for the words "path of higher realms" and "path of definite goodness," because one is not proficient in all aspects, so one does not clearly answer that one is extremely foolish. That is because one only asks everything of others, and then with that
