Therefore, it is established. What is the scriptural authority? The statement that "the effect is inherently present in the cause" is a hearing lineage, transmitted from one person to another, and passed down through the giving of the scriptures. What is the reasoning? For example, some ascetics, Brahmins, logicians, and those skilled in reasoning, they recognize things through conceptualization, generate views from their own pride, and abide in following the reasoning of their respective beings. They think like this: the things that arise from certain things are called the causes of those things, and are established as such, not others. Those who desire the effect will also grasp for the sake of that effect, not others. In those actions, they only combine those things, not others. That effect also only arises from those things, not others. Therefore, that effect arises from that cause. If it were not so, then all things could be considered the cause of all things, all things could be grasped, in actions they could be combined with all things, and all things could arise from all things. They think like this, therefore, in establishing, grasping, combining actions, and producing effects, they always believe that the effect is inherently present in the cause. To this, it should be said: what do you consider the nature of the cause, the nature of the effect, and the nature of the effect in the cause to be? Is it a nature without difference, or do you consider it to be a nature with difference? If you consider it to be a nature without difference, then, because there is no difference between the cause and the effect, it is impossible to determine what is the cause and what is the effect, therefore it cannot be said that the effect is inherently present in the cause. If you consider it to be a nature with difference, then do you consider it to be an unarisen nature, or an arisen nature? If you consider it to be an unarisen nature, then it cannot be said that there is an unarisen effect in the cause. If you consider it to be an arisen nature, then it cannot be said that an arisen effect in the cause will arise again. Therefore, there is no effect in the cause, but if the cause exists, then relying on conditions, the effect will arise. Therefore, the existence of nature is proven by five aspects.
