Severance Abandoning the eleven aspects, whatever completely abandons all that arises is the complete abandonment of interruption. The extensive meaning of completely abandoning interruption is as follows: It should be understood in the manner that has been taught. There is nothing higher than this. There is nothing more excellent than this. What is the object of delight to be kept in mind in order to quickly bring about the manifest realization of knowledge? Thus, the noble Hearer who has seen the truth, having known this, gains faith, and having known this, relying on that very faith, also generates supreme joy by thinking of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha as fields of merit, and relying on his own manifest superiority and definite goodness, also generates supreme joy by thinking of the perfection of body, enjoyment, and realization, and relying on the absence of jealousy, just as he does for himself, also generates supreme joy for the prosperity of others, and relying on gratitude, like this, starting from eliminating suffering and its causes, and accomplishing happiness and its causes, remembering and thinking of the benefit conferred by the helpful teacher, also generates supreme joy. Thus, this is in accordance with the path of meditation, so thinking of the object that causes supreme joy will quickly bring about manifest knowledge. In accordance with the path of meditation, the extensive meaning of keeping in mind the object of supreme joy should be understood as follows: There is nothing higher than this. There is nothing more excellent than this. How does one meditate on the path that has been attained? Thus, starting from the great joy, without fault, the mind being moistened, going to the ultimate, in this life the mind becomes very joyful. Thus, the one who possesses joy, when will I be accomplished by the noble Arhat, and having accomplished it, abide in that place where he abides? Thinking thus, constantly practicing correctly with the desire to arise from renunciation, and when such a desire arises, he will always strive to accomplish it, the Dharma of the wings of enlightenment.

One should strive to practice the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. Thus, having exerted effort, one should dwell without mingling with householders and renunciants, relying on remote dwellings and residing in solitude. Thus, having generated aspiration and initiated effort, being completely in solitude, one should not be content with obtaining even small qualities, nor be content with virtuous dharmas, but abide in a manner desiring ever better states. Therefore, the path of their meditation is encompassed and well encompassed by these four dharmas. Relying on those four paths of meditation, the meditation is perfected by the manner in which the excellence enters into that supreme joy, which is the generation of the object of supreme joy as previously shown. Also, by realizing the excellence of the attainment of abandoning afflictions, the meditation of that joy is perfected. Also, by being separated from the unfortunate states of the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation, the extreme suppleness and the cooling benefit of body and mind generated by extreme suppleness, the meditation is perfected. Also, the samadhi of their learning goes to the ultimate like a vajra, and the meditation is perfected. This is called the meditation of how to obtain the path. The detailed explanation of the meaning of the meditation of how to obtain the path is as follows: that is, it should be known that relying on the four dharmas, the meditation of the five dharmas is perfected. There is nothing higher than this. There is nothing more excellent than this. What is the attainment of the path of extreme purity, along with its fruit and benefits? In the three states of happiness, suffering, and neither suffering nor happiness, the two types of individuals with latent afflictions, namely ordinary beings and learners, will mostly arise. These are the two aspects of all-pervasive afflictions, namely the aspect of all-pervasive afflictions of grasping and the aspect of all-pervasive afflictions of formation, abandoning those two aspects of all-pervasive afflictions that cause all-pervasive afflictions.
