Therefore, it should be understood that this is the realization of mindfulness to be done for the sake of realizing the truth. If one has previously attained samadhi through worldly paths, and the samadhi is complete, and one has also attained mastery over samadhi, then, by what characteristics of samadhi does one enter into samadhi, by what characteristics of abiding in samadhi does one enter and abide, and by what characteristics of emerging from samadhi does one emerge from samadhi, one should attend to those characteristics, and when the mind abides in this, one will also realize the truth. If one attains samadhi, but the samadhi is not complete, and one has not attained mastery over samadhi, then, one should attend to the characteristics of tranquility, or attend to the characteristics of superior understanding, or attend to the characteristics of equanimity, and when the mind abides well in this, one will also realize the truth, therefore, it should be understood that the mind abides from the basis. These two things are very obstructive to those who diligently strive to realize the truth, what are the two? They are evil thoughts disturbing the mind and the mind not being calm, and reversed clinging to knowable objects. To counteract these obstructions, skillfully entering into the object of the mind, it should also be understood that there are only two ways: the first antidote is mindfulness of exhaling and inhaling. The other antidote is cultivating mindfulness, therefore, it should be understood that one abides respectfully in the object. For those who diligently strive in this way in the Vinaya of the Noble Ones, the five desirable qualities will not become objects of enjoyment, if one is content with just coarse robes, alms, bedding, and cushions, and overcomes all gains and respect, like this: gains and respect obtained by relying on the five desirable qualities will not completely occupy their mind, just this much is completely abandoning non-enjoyable places. Having abandoned non-enjoyable places in this way, starting from those mindfulnesses themselves, day and night one delights in abandoning, delights in meditation, and generates universal weariness.

In order to keep in mind the decline and prosperity of oneself and others, and in order to make the mind rejoice, one engages in remembering the Buddha, etc. In this way, one abides in the noble lineage. This should be understood as a collection from the chapter on the path of the main assembly of abiding in the mind. Twenty-sixth fascicle. When one abides in that assembly in this way, there are two methods of practice that are used for yogic contemplation. What are the two? Relying on the scriptural authority of the Sutras, etc., through the cause of proper contemplation, one becomes skilled in things such as the aggregates; and relying on the instructions of the other, the guru, such as the teacher, the preceptor, or the abbot, in order to fully receive the instructions and follow the teachings at all times, one relies on the guru. The practice of proper contemplation should also be understood as the third method. Among these, the practice of proper contemplation is this: the so-called proper practice, in this chapter of meaning, refers to the complete purification of ethics; contemplating this is the practice of proper contemplation. When I contemplate the complete purity of my own ethics, there will be no regret. Because there is no regret, one will become exceedingly joyful, and extensively, it is combined with the samadhi of the mind. Therefore, the practice of proper contemplation is also called the method of making the mind abide, and it should be understood that through such a method, the mind will quickly abide. When, at the time when those five causes, those covered by twenty aspects, the craving is exhausted, and the cessation of nirvana is attained, the mind is well established, because of complete discouragement, his mind will not turn back, and in the moment of the mind's abiding, the truth is realized, this is called the realization of truth. The extensive explanation of the meaning of the realization of truth is this: it should be understood that these twenty aspects of making the mind weary and these twenty aspects of making the mind abide are these. There is nothing higher than this, and there is nothing more excellent than this. So, what is the complete abandonment of obstacles? In short, the types of obstacles
