Assuming there is no son to be obtained. Because of being endowed with complete defilements, sadness arises; because of being separated from complete purification, sadness also arises. The fault of having complete defilements, and the fault of being separated from complete purification, and also seeing that achieving complete purification is difficult, sadness will arise. Among these, having complete defilements, in short, there are three types: not being purified, and having complete defilements at the time of death without being tamed; similarly, even after death, falling into the great abyss of defilements in the next life, having complete defilements; similarly, because of being controlled by defilements, engaging in all non-virtuous dharmas, going to the fearful direction, having complete defilements. One truly sees that one has not obtained the fruit of a renunciate, and because of not having these, one truly sees these three aspects of having complete defilements, so the mind becomes sad. Among these, being separated from complete purification should be understood as only three types: the cessation of suffering that abandons defilements, which is called the fearless direction; in order to obtain it, starting from the training of higher mind, the samadhi of virtuous mind; starting from the training of higher wisdom, the supreme path belonging to right view. Thus, one truly sees oneself as being separated from these three aspects of complete purification, and the mind becomes sad. The faults of having complete defilements should also be understood as three types: birth is the root of the suffering of aging and sickness, therefore its nature is suffering; being born without leisure; all births are connected with impermanence. These three types of faults of having complete defilements will make one's mind sad. The faults of being separated from complete purification should be understood as five types: the obscuration of being born in a borderland; the obscuration of being born in a lower realm; in terms of householders, not accumulating the karma of uninterrupted deeds; in terms of renunciates, not being separated from immeasurable views; fear.

By the path of reliance, even if one enters and is born below the peak of existence, one cannot exhaust the beginningless cycle of birth and death. Having truly seen these five faults of being separated from purification, one's own mind will become disgusted. Among them, purification is difficult to achieve, and it should be known in five ways: not doing and forgetting, therefore unable to do; for the sake of others, relying on others entrusting to others, therefore unable to achieve; before it is done, the purification of my mind, because it does not have the nature of happiness that liberates from suffering, therefore it cannot not be done; merely not committing sinful deeds in this life does not count as having achieved purification, because unless one obtains the antidote path of being free from disease in this life, the non-virtuous deeds previously committed will not be purified; purification is distinguished by obtaining the path of learning and the path of no more learning. Therefore, having truly seen these five situations, purification is difficult to achieve, thereby generating disgust, and firmly initiating diligence in order to truly achieve it. He makes the mind disgusted by seeing having and being separated from all afflictions and purification, and feels fear by seeing the faults of all afflictions and being separated from purification, thereby turning away from laziness and indolence, in order to correctly achieve purification and eliminate all afflictions. In the manner of attention, the mind is made disgusted, and by doing this attention many times, it becomes even more disgusted. Just as with disgust and great disgust, so too with fear and great fear, turning back and great turning back. In this way, his mind, through the perception associated with disgust, belongs to the five places of attention, and through these twenty ways, thorough purification is done, and through the other five causes contained in these twenty ways, the mind quickly abides in the extinction of craving, the peaceful Nirvana.

I will not change my mind due to any fault, and I will think that I have nothing that belongs to me. What are the five causes? They are understanding through attention. Following that understanding through attention, one enters a state of true flawlessness, realizes all truths, and touches the wisdom of the noble ones, these are four. The continuation based on that foundation is as before. The gate of entering the object of focus, if one focuses on the gate of entering the object of focus, one enters a state of true flawlessness, as before. Completely holding the collection, relying on the completely held collection, one enters a state of true flawlessness, as before. Completely holding the method, relying on the completely held method, one enters a state of true flawlessness, as described in detail before. These five causes should be understood as originating from causes that do not conform, not from causes that do conform, because the main aspect of that cause has been shown as before, so the non-conforming cause should be regarded as conforming. Following the attention associated with emptiness, wishlessness, and signlessness, fully combining minute parts, arising with and without interruption, attending to the correct recognition of the characteristics of the mind accompanied by the pride of "I am," which hinders realization. After understanding, the mind associated with that attention will well abandon its own operation. After the cessation of the mind, each moment will newly arise, and each moment will attend to the states of impermanence, etc., as they truly are. For that attention, through the cause of universal reliance, the cause of meditation, and the cause of repeated practice, wisdom equal to the object of focus and the non-object of focus will arise. By abandoning the pride of "I am," which hinders realization, and the things that distract the mind, one will touch single-pointedness of mind. Truly and thoroughly understanding and attending to "I have touched single-pointedness of mind."
