Having become. Any discouragement in the bardo is considered not to be a part of me. Like this, diligently applying mindfulness as it should be, the thought of renunciation that arises is called the thought of a śrāmaṇa. His thought is completely perfected in a way that focuses on practice. Relying on that, he attains complete samādhi through the worldly path. For those who have not directly abandoned afflictions, they will always do so, starting from the love of abandonment. In order to gain mastery over samādhi, starting from the love of practice, they will enter again and again into the attainment of worldly virtue. Brahmins and believing householders will attend to him with reverence, and even if great wealth is offered, he will not generate greed from wealth and reverence, nor will he generate greed for the wealth and reverence of others. Even if unbelievers engage in unpleasant bodily and verbal actions, whether openly or secretly, he will not hate them in his heart, nor will he harbor malice in his heart. In order to avoid engaging in various faults such as desire, pride, views, ignorance, doubt, and the near afflictions of absorption, he will also remain very firmly in mindfulness. Even if he has attained great śamatha-vipassanā, he will not consider that he has accomplished his task with śamatha-vipassanā alone, nor will he communicate knowledge to others. In this way, he loves abandonment and loves practice, so he has no greed and no malice in his heart. He has correct mindfulness, no pride, and is content with coarse Dharma robes. Just like the Dharma robes, it is the same for alms, bedding, and cushions. Such a satisfied and content person, having entered correctly in this way, for the sake of samādhi, these necessities of life are for the body to abide, for the life force, for pacifying hunger, and for benefiting the Brahmacarya, from consciously enjoying them, these are explained in detail.

For example, just like the cooking methods of food. If one enters correctly in this way, one will gain mastery over samadhi. By abiding in it, the mind will become completely pure, completely cleansed, without flaws, and free from the afflictions of proximity, up to the point of vast immovability. If one attains these, one will immediately have the power to accomplish the five superknowledges and to accomplish the exhaustion of defilements. This is called mastery over samadhi. The detailed explanation of the meaning of mastery over samadhi is as follows: It should be recognized that it is only in the manner that has been shown, and there is nothing higher than this. There is nothing more excellent than this. Whether it is the initial attainment of samadhi, or the complete perfection of intermediate samadhi, or mastery over samadhi, for these, it is called the unsurpassed purity of the mundane. This should be regarded as belonging to this Dharma, and not to those outside of it. So, what is the completely transcendent purity that is beyond the world? In brief, it should be recognized as having five aspects. What are these five aspects? They are: the truth to be realized, the abandonment of practices for the sake of realizing the truth, for the sake of quickly attaining superknowledges, the contemplation of supremely delightful objects, the showing of the path of meditation, and the attainment of the path of extreme purity, complete with fruits and benefits. So, what is the truth to be realized? The Hearers of the Thus-Gone One strive in worldly forms, and for a long time, they nourish their minds with the qualities of the five desires as food, showing them closely. And by looking at those very things with a manner of great delight, they see the faults in desires, and look upward to peace, like this: it is easy to establish oneself in a realm that is delighted with worldly purity, but it is difficult to establish oneself in a realm that is beyond the world and without elaboration. Even so, they abide with weariness, and not without weariness. Therefore, those of this Dharma wish to establish their minds in Nirvana, which is without elaboration, and wish to have faith in it, which is the fruit of a renunciate.
