It should be known that the first action is idleness and laziness. The second action is viewing the perishable aggregates. The third action is craving for enjoyment. The fourth action is desire for various worldly things and the attachment that follows. Regarding these four unfavorable aspects, it should be known that cultivating the antidotes also has four aspects, according to their order. That is, cultivating the perception of suffering in impermanence, cultivating the perception of selflessness in suffering, cultivating the perception of repulsiveness in food, and cultivating the perception of displeasure in all the world. Therefore, for the yoga of truly abiding inwardly in a supremely secluded place, in short, in the state of concentration, it should be known that there are four dharmas that are contrary to it. What are these four? They are: the mind becoming darkened towards the aspects of calm abiding and insight; and when entering into samadhi, craving that follows after tasting flavors; and for birth, the mind that follows after the signs of agitation; and postponing from tomorrow to tomorrow, relying on other times, and not diligently applying oneself to practice, being possessed of the thought of immortality. For these four unfavorable aspects, it should also be known that there are four types of antidote cultivation. That is, cultivating the perception of light, cultivating the perception of detachment, cultivating the perception of cessation, and cultivating the perception of death. Therefore, the impure perception, in short, has two aspects: gathered by the power of individual examination, and gathered by the power of cultivation. Among these, the impure perception gathered by the power of individual examination, it should be known that there are five dharmas that are contrary to it. What are these five? They are: openly being close to women, being forgetful, being careless in secret, whether in secret or openly, due to the power of previous habits, even if diligently cultivating the impure perception, there will be mistaken attention. What is meant by mistaken attention is this: for impurity, because there is no individual examination, one will follow after the signs of purity. The unfavorable aspects of cultivating the impure perception gathered by the power of cultivation.

The laws of the opposing side should be known to be of seven types. What are the seven? Because of evil deeds, the mind is distracted, and engaging in evil deeds, relying on disrespect and lack of questioning, not being skilled in yogic contemplation, relying on not guarding the sense doors, even though dwelling in solitude, the mind is disturbed by afflicted thoughts, relying on not knowing the measure of food, making the body unfit, and relying on that disturbance of thoughts, not rejoicing in the extreme remoteness of inner mental quiescence, and relying on that unfitness of the body, there is no ease of experience in higher vision, therefore, one cannot individually discern what is to be known as it is. Gathering all those laws of the opposing side, they can also be transformed into twelve types, and also into fourteen types. As an antidote to those laws of the opposing side, the laws of the white side are also found there. It should be known that cultivating the perception of ugliness is a cherishing of two kinds. Among them, the laws that have turned into the opposing side of the perception of suffering in impermanence should be known to be of six types. What are the six? Not being diligent in initially generating unarisen virtuous dharmas, and not being diligent in abiding in arisen virtuous dharmas, not being diligent in not declining, not being diligent in perfecting cultivation, not being diligent in increasing and expanding, not being diligent in magnifying, and not going to serve the guru, and not constantly making inquiries, and not constantly cultivating virtuous dharmas, and not trusting the guru, and relying on not trusting him, therefore not constantly cultivating, and not being cautious internally, and relying on not being cautious, therefore not constantly cultivating virtuous dharmas. It should be known that the antidote to the laws that have turned to the opposing side is the cherishing of the six laws that are the opposite of those. The perception of appearance is to focus on various appearances, such as arising from the ground of equipoise. In this context of meaning, it is to focus on the appearance of the Dharma.
