How does one gain knowledge of arising, cessation, and the path? By focusing on suffering as suffering, and on the path as the path, all defilements are exhausted, and detachment from the desires of the three realms is subsequently attained. Thus, relying on the wisdom previously gained and making wisdom the guide, one becomes completely purified. The brief answer to this explanation is that, in short, the Blessed One taught that ordinary beings first become detached from desire and then realize the truth, thereby becoming purified; learners first realize the truth and then become detached from desire, thereby becoming purified. It should be understood that this is the brief answer here. Who, without neglecting the umbrella's sign, will cross this river? Who will not be discouraged by the profound state of non-objectification and non-abiding? One who possesses all aspects and discipline, one who possesses wisdom, in equipoise, with inner focus and mindfulness, will cross this extremely difficult passage. Without attachment to the perception of desire, having transcended the bonds of the form realm, in the profound state of non-objectification and non-abiding, that one will not be discouraged. This is called a verse. What is the river? There are four rivers: from the river of desire to the river of ignorance. What is non-objectification and non-abiding? It is the cessation of craving, the detachment from desire, cessation, nirvana, and the absorption of cessation. Why is it peaceful? Objectification is called the entanglement of afflictions, and abiding is called the latent tendencies of afflictions. Where both of these do not exist is called non-objectification and non-abiding. If there are no other names, then nirvana is called non-objectification and non-abiding. Furthermore, objectification is called perception, and abiding is called feeling. Where both of these do not exist is called non-objectification and non-abiding. Therefore, in terms of names, the absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling is called non-objectification and non-abiding. In terms of meaning, here it refers to the absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling. How does one possess discipline in all aspects? By restraining body and speech, and

It is to make the conduct completely pure. How does one possess wisdom? It is to know the noble truth of suffering, up to the noble truth of the path, as they truly are. How does one attain perfect equanimity? It is to cultivate and abide in the fourth dhyana or the peak of existence samapatti, from being secluded from all desires. How does one contemplate internally? It is to continuously contemplate each of the twenty-two places, starting from "I am ugly because of the marks of a householder," and practice as explained in detail in the sutra. How does one possess mindfulness? It is to constantly practice and abide in each of these twenty-two places, relying on the perception of a renunciant, and to cultivate the four mindfulnesses in order to abandon the remaining afflictions. How does one transcend what is extremely difficult to transcend? It is to abandon all afflictions and thus transcend the peak of existence, which is extremely difficult to transcend, because it is not easily transcended by all ordinary beings. How does one become free from attachment to desires? It is because one has completely known and abandoned the afflictions corresponding to the last part of the desire realm. How does one transcend the afflictions of the form realm? It is because one has completely known and abandoned the afflictions corresponding to the higher part of the form realm. How does one not become discouraged by the profound non-objectification and non-abiding? It is to be free from desire for the formless realms, or not free from desire, that is, to have attained the sphere of nothingness up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and to have the ability and power to enter into cessation samapatti. For this, there are both learners and non-learners, because it is not explicitly stated that one has transcended all the afflictions of the formless realms. The brief answer to this explanation is: In short, what the Bhagavan said is for the purpose of attaining the ultimate result and realizing the ultimate
