Whatever is referred to as a name, what is it? What is the name of 'name'? It refers to those instances where, relying on one's own awareness, understanding, contact, and manifestation of various inner perceptions, one applies names to other things; these are called the names of 'name'. So, what are the many bases of names? They can be the basis of definitive words—name, or the basis of elaboration, and the basis of concise meaning—name, all of which belong to the category of names. These should be understood as encompassing all the meanings of the letters that form the outer shape of letters. These include: earth, senses, objects, dharma, person, self-nature, various distinctions, actions, self, other, things, non-things, questions, answers, giving, receiving, truth, falsehood, permission, prohibition, virtues, faults, gain, no gain, pleasant, unpleasant, happiness, suffering, blame, praise, essence, श्रेष्ठ, knowledge, discouragement, laziness, just so, correctly showing to a friend, causing to understand correctly, correctly praising, causing to be very happy, and so on. For the seven modes of expression, they are also the seven distinctions, such as 'man to man, called man,' and so on. There are also designation, non-designation, grammar, definite thought, discrimination, existence, placement, gathering, accumulation, determination, command, wonder, beginning, middle, end, and so on. There are also the cognition of caste, vows, names, effort, enjoyment, seeking, complete protection, avoidance, compassion, patience, fear, various discriminations, and so on. The complete acceptance of father and mother, and sons, etc., and all utensils, should also be expressed. From birth, aging to the lack of desire, and sorrow, lamentation, youth, health, being alive, meeting with beloved things, and meeting with unloved things.

Among these, first, regarding the aggregate of form, when do all phenomena arise? They arise from their respective seeds. How do the great elements act as causes to produce form? How do those forms that are caused depend, how do they abide, how do they become stable, and how do they grow? Like this, internal and external

The seeds of all external arising and form as cause reside in the inner mind stream. If the seeds of arising do not give rise to the arisings, then the seeds of form as cause will not give rise to form as cause either. When the arisings have arisen, and arise from the seeds of form as cause itself, then it is called arising as cause. Because it arises and manifests, the arisings are what it gives rise to. If asked, how does form as cause depend on it? Answer: Because when form as cause arises, it exists without difference from the aspect of arising. If asked, how does it exist in it? Answer: Because it is accomplished by the benefits and harms of the four great elements, and because happiness is the same. If asked, how is it stable by relying on it? Answer: Because it does not perish merely by existing. If asked, how does it make it grow? Answer: By relying on food, sleep, abiding in celibacy, or meditation, because it abides in it, it grows and becomes extremely vast, therefore it is called making it grow. It should be known that the five aspects of the four great elements act on form as cause. For the aggregate of form, atoms will never arise. When arising, only small, medium, or large aggregates arise from their own seeds, but atoms do not give rise to aggregates. Atoms are only established by completely cutting off the boundary of measurement with wisdom, therefore aggregates have directions, and atoms also have directions, but aggregates have limbs, while atoms do not. Why is that? The atom itself is a limb, and it also exists in the aggregate itself, but atoms are not of other atoms, therefore atoms are not with limbs. Non-difference is the two aspects of having limbs, one-sided non-difference is, for example: form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and the atoms of the arising of those without sense faculties.
