Whatever is born is the truth of arising, the cause of suffering. Because of birth, there is aging, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and agitation after being born. It is like this. If one sees conditioned phenomena as flawed because of selflessness, how is that? It is like this, here someone thinks like this: my body and my form, and the woman's body and the woman's form, there is no self, no sentient being, no enjoyer, and nothing to be enjoyed. This is merely conditioned phenomena. This is merely dharma. This is merely dependent arising. It is like this. If one dwells in mindfulness of the body and becomes very disgusted, how is that? It is like this, here someone is naturally inclined to strong desire. Although that person with strong desire has uncontrolled senses, desire makes his mind uncomfortable. Even if he thinks of the impure, thinks of suffering and selflessness, desire still makes his mind uncomfortable. Therefore, relying on thinking of the impure, thinking of suffering and selflessness, he temporarily obtains disgust, condemnation, retreat, and hatred, and then moves mindfulness away from mindfulness of the body. If he constantly relies on and cultivates, then he will gradually reduce strong desire. Even if his senses are uncontrolled, desire will not make his mind uncomfortable. Even if he thinks of the impure, thinks of suffering and selflessness, desire will not make his mind uncomfortable. In this way, through these methods, his afflictive desire will be abandoned through the way of manifestation, but not through the way of latent tendencies. The desire for the desire realm exists in the continuum of ordinary beings and learners in the manner of latent tendencies and afflictions. Among them, some learners may not necessarily have it, because they have already separated from the desire of the lower realms and have already achieved [liberation].

Even if one has already attained (the stream-enterer fruit), if one has not yet severed the desire for the upper realms, one will not attain accomplishment and bliss. In the continuum of a non-learner, there is no attachment to the intermediate realm, nor is there attachment to the desire of the sublime realm, let alone the desire of the inferior realm. Because the non-learner has abandoned the desire for the lower and upper realms, he knows that he has attained accomplishment and bliss in all places. Therefore, in order to make some learners who have not yet abandoned the desire for the desire realm become non-learners in the future, they aspire to quiescence with their minds, regard Nirvana as tranquility, do not attend to all signs, and attend to the realm of no-sign, thereby studying the samadhi of no-sign, and by repeatedly practicing this, they will abandon the pride of thinking "I am" that is practiced in the three realms. Because they have abandoned pride and abandoned the desire for the upper and lower realms, through the path of attaining accomplishment and bliss, the non-learner will be able to sever the desire in the three realms, thereby completely abandoning all causes of suffering and ultimately attaining the cessation of all suffering. Therefore, eliminating the habitual tendencies of pride is to practice no-sign, and in order to manifest pride, one can also ultimately attain the cessation of suffering. The essence of this sutra is: how the desire of the desire realm arises, how it is pacified, and what is pacified, these are the essence of this sutra, which should be understood. If asked: how does the desire of the desire realm arise? Answer: It arises from five causes: perceiving pleasure, delighting in happiness, perceiving it as sentient beings, intense desire, and unbroken habitual tendencies. If asked: how is the desire of the desire realm pacified after it arises? Answer: It is pacified by five causes: attending to impurity, attending to suffering, attending to no-self, extreme aversion, and the complete severing of habitual tendencies. If asked: what is pacification? Answer: There are two kinds of pacification: pacification due to complete non-action, and non-arising in the future due to the severing of habitual tendencies. Among them, the four causes of the pacification of the desire of the desire realm are
