Having completely abandoned the obscurations of pride, regret, and doubt, one develops aspiration for virtuous Dharma, finds fault with desires, and engages in virtuous activities. Because of the cause of easily experiencing bliss, one relies on sleep at the appropriate time. When pacifying the mind, if it becomes dull, or if there is fear of becoming dull, the mind does not remain calm due to focusing on the characteristics of what should be believed. When walking, before faults occur, one does not do those things, so there is no regret. Progressively becoming more excellent, being respectful, and constantly engaging, one correctly demonstrates these trainings with the superior mind of correct application. By entering, it awakens; likewise, it completely combines. Grasping at signs and attachment; likewise, it causes increase. Copulation and extreme attachment. Discrimination is said to be action; that which generates desire and attachment, the wise should completely abandon. This refers to the eight types of discrimination that generate sexual desire, starting from the beginning and proceeding to the end, arising in sequence, and clearly showing the distinction of completely abandoning pure training. Among these, the discrimination of entering is related to the mind entering with improper attention to the object of attachment. Awakening refers to being associated with the awakening of attachment to that object. Completely combining refers to seeking that object. Grasping at signs refers to grasping various ugly signs from that object. Attachment refers to having particularly strong attachment to the object that has been obtained. Increasing refers to wanting to enjoy that object in various ways, entering through various doors. Copulation refers to the time when the two faculties of male and female meet. Extreme attachment refers to the time when semen is discharged. Desires do not satisfy, are shared by many, become the cause of non-Dharma, and likewise increase desire. They are what the noble ones should abandon, quickly perish, desires depend on conditions, and are also the place of carelessness. These eight aspects, according to circumstances, in this life and the next

Therefore, by revealing the faults of desires in future lives, the method of abandoning the desire for desires is shown. Desires are like skeletons, similarly like bait of flesh, like a grass lamp, similarly like a pit of fire, like a venomous snake, similarly like a dream, like the adornment of an actor, similarly like the fruit of a tree. Having recognized that desires are like this, one should not be attached to them in any way. This passage shows that the eight faults, such as desires not being satisfying, are shown as faults by examples that are known to all the world. If many faults are shown in just this way, then how could a wise person become attached to them? Among them, not being satisfying is because it is like a skeleton. Being numerous and shared is because it is like bait of flesh. Becoming the cause of non-Dharma is because it is like a grass lamp; if it is not abandoned, it will be close to being burned. Increasing craving is like a pit of fire, similar to being thirsty. It should be abandoned by the noble ones because it is like a venomous snake. Quickly perishing is because it is like a dream. Depending on conditions is because it is like the adornment of an actor. Being a place of carelessness is because it is like the fruit of a tree. One should always listen to the holy Dharma, contemplate and meditate, first peaceful and vast, when seeing it, one should meditate with one-pointedness. Abandon afflictions and bad destinies, and also rejoice in abandoning. One should also examine the signs, and practice yoga. One should abandon attachment to desires, and also abandon attachment to the form realm. One should realize the truth, and abandon attachment to everything. One should attain Nirvana in this life, and likewise exhaust the aggregates. This passage, through the seven mental activities such as individually recognizing characteristics, shows the training in higher wisdom with the result of the pure path of worldly and transmundane, with the fruit of Nirvana with remainder and Nirvana without remainder. Among them,

The distinct understanding of characteristics is taught by listening to the sacred Dharma and by the words of contemplation. What arises from faith is taught by the words of meditation, because one meditates there with faith. The initial peace and vastness, and what is said from seeing, is extreme solitude. To meditate with certainty on one thing means to gather joy. One should also apply to the sign, which means applying it to the mind. One should practice union, which means the ultimate of union. To be free from desire's attachment, and to be free from form's attachment. One should realize the truth. One should be free from attachment to everything. This refers to the result of the ultimate union of the mundane and the supramundane. The teaching of the verses on the meaning of intention is complete. Now, the arrangement of the verses on the meaning of aggregation is as follows: In all the world, one should not commit any sins of mind, speech, and body; being free from noise, mindful, and conscious, one should not rely on suffering that is harmful. This is a verse. Here, sin means engaging in wrongdoing. Engaging in wrongdoing is not done in all ways, on all bases, and in all places. How is it not done in all ways? For example, it is not done by body, speech, and mind. How is it not done on all bases? For example, what arises from attachment, what arises from hatred, and what arises from ignorance. How is it not done in all places? For example, in the place of sentient beings' objects and in the place of non-sentient beings' objects. How is one free from desires? Because one has abandoned the desire for things and abandoned the desire for afflictions. What is the abandonment of the desire for things? For example, here some people, having gained faith in the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Tathagata, think that living at home is harmful and are determined to renounce, from the time they have faith to go forth from home to homelessness, that is, to fully ordain. Although that is not yet being free from attachment to desires, this is called abandoning the desire for things. What is the abandonment of afflictive attachment? It is like that
