"Not damaging the discipline from the training" and so on, refers to abiding in having discipline. "Also possessing vows" and so on, refers to being restrained by the Pratimoksha vows. "Good rituals not despised" and so on, refers to rituals not being damaged. "Also completely abandoning the five places" and so on, refers to the sphere of activity not being damaged. The five places are: places that are not the sphere of activity for monks. The king's palace, the place of a butcher, the house of a wine seller, the place of a prostitute, and the place of a Chandalas. Among these, the place of a butcher should be regarded as a place of killing. Because there, calling out and slaughtering etc., are extremely hateful sinful actions, killing sheep etc. "Giving without regret, regretting without fault," refers to seeing even the smallest faults as fearful. Among these, how is it that giving is without regret, and how is it that regretting does not create fault? "One should rely on the training, and diligently apply oneself to it from the heart," refers to taking up the basis of the training completely and learning. "One should not abandon it backwards, and one should not destroy it even for the sake of life, one should always diligently abide, and one should enter into taming," this verse, with the four roots in order, shows that discipline is constant, discipline is stable, making it uninterrupted, and constantly abiding. "The vow should be pure first, and livelihood should also be pure," this half verse shows that rituals and livelihood are completely pure, rituals are what was vowed before, because the particle "ga" is used, it is called vowing. "Having abandoned the two extremes, one should also completely abandon wishes," refers to abandoning the extreme that is associated with the merit of desire, and the two extremes that are associated with making the body weary, and completely abandoning wishes for heavens etc., only showing that discipline is completely pure. "For all the things that cause obstacles, one should not be attached in any way, and for the things that make the mind confused, one should not accept them when they arise," this verse refers to not guarding the sense doors etc.

Seeing those who cut off the completely pure qualities as non-virtues and not being attached, and not accepting the arising of thoughts of desiring non-virtue, harmful thoughts, etc., which disturb the mind, thus teaching the complete purity of discipline. Do not be too discouraged nor too indulgent, always maintain mindfulness. Through the main practice and the near attainment, practice pure conduct. This shows that by completely abandoning regret and regret in the wrong place, and by abandoning forgetfulness, at the time of completion and at the time of practice, it teaches the pure practice of conduct. Exertion should also be initiated, always be diligent and steadfast. By dwelling well, be mindful, and be steadfast with the five limbs. This shows that by relying on armor and the irreversible exertion of practice, and by relying on the five kinds of mindfulness, it only teaches the difference of the complete purity of discipline. Among them, the five limbs of mindfulness are: the past, the future, the present, what should be done beforehand, and practicing in accordance. One should not boast of good deeds, but sins should be confessed. For Dharma robes, etc., whether good or bad, one should be content. Even in times of hardship, one should abide, even in bad circumstances, one should abide. By abandoning afflictions, for the sake of peace, one should truly obtain the qualities of practice. These two verses show that desiring the benefit of knowledge is the root of great greed and dissatisfaction. By completely abandoning these two factors that hinder the complete purity of discipline, which are great greed and dissatisfaction, it teaches the complete purity of discipline. One should be endowed with pure conduct, and also be moderate in receiving. For this purpose, one should not adorn conduct for the sake of pretense. In terms of receiving, through contentment, in order to abide in conduct with how much, from receiving the necessities to sustain life, it only teaches the complete purity of discipline. One's own qualities, even if true, should not be spoken, nor should one cause others to speak. Or, one should not show those qualities and the signs of desire. Nor should one forcefully urge others to beg.
