In two verses such as these, it is shown that ignorance and craving are the causes. From then on, the five verses show the detailed distinctions of the defilements themselves, as well as the support, cause, and time. Among them, the dharmas accompanied by causes are from ignorance up to feeling. Suffering accompanied by causes is from craving up to old age and death. This shows the three aspects of defilement: affliction, karma, and birth. After making the two main afflictions, it means that from the defilements of affliction, the main selection of the defilements of affliction is shown. Actions are not done by me, which means that the defilements of karma are also explained separately, because it has done various things, and its maturation is also inconceivable. Among them, actions are not done by me, because it depends on the accomplishment of evil friends and virtuous friends by others. It is not done only by others, because it depends on the actions of the individual. It is not just that others make things happen, because it depends on the causes of previous lives. Actions that have not arisen, and so on, these verses mean that defilements do not arise depending on the future, but show defilements depending on the actions that are happening now and in the past. Actions that have already arisen are not distinguished by it, because the future has no characteristics and is not distinguished, because if one speculates in other directions, there are also some that will change in other directions, so it is impossible to determine that it will become like this or that. For the past, there is distinction, which means that it is possible to grasp the characteristics of what this and this has become. It is not just distinguishing experiences, even for the future that has not been experienced, even though there are no characteristics to grasp, it is still distinguished. This shows that the defilements arising from the cause of distinction depend on the actions that are happening now. Actions have no beginning, but appear to have a beginning, which refers to the time of defilement, that is, the time without beginning.

It is for the sake of following after that, and for the sake of new birth. From here onwards, it shows the aspect of purification. For example, form and so on, like pots, pillars, and so on, are the common characteristics of conditioned phenomena because their own characteristics, as well as arising, abiding, and ceasing, are the same. If one thoroughly examines them with the common characteristics, conventional truth, and ultimate truth, they will become purified. Thus, there is nothing that makes one deluded, but the delusion of dependent origination is not non-existent. In conventional terms, delusion is said to be that which makes one confused. Because for those who are not deluded, there is no improper attention, therefore it shows that delusion does not make one deluded. Similarly, consciousness, in conventional terms, is said to approach meritorious actions and so on, but in ultimate terms, there is no approaching. The so-called three desires are those that have arisen in the past, future, and present. The question, "What are the three actions?" refers to actions of body and so on. The statement, "All of them are unrelated," means that they do not interact with each other. Thus, those of the present are of the nature of disintegration, those of the past do not abide anywhere, and those that have not arisen depend on conditions. The statement, "The mind follows after external objects," refers to whatever is in accordance with them. If that is the case, just as meritorious actions and so on are unrelated, similarly, the mind that is in accordance with them is also the same. If it belongs to the category of change, how can it approach? Because the mind is in accordance with whatever action it is in accordance with, or if it becomes not in accordance with it, then it is not the kind that is either completely in accordance with it or not in accordance with it. It is not the case that the mind is in accordance with all things or not in accordance with them. Even so, the true approach of the mind is not established. In conventional terms, it is said, "The mind approaches." If one asks, "By what reason does it show this?" it is shown by verses such as, "Because the continuum is the same and different." The statement, "This is conventional action."
