They do not establish it as such. Some establish it as suffering, some establish it as non-suffering, some establish it as selflessness, and some establish it as self. Likewise, for the unpredicted bases, those established by the Bhagavan are thoroughly sought as suitable for a definitive prediction, and those established as predictions are also believed, and the uncertain is established as certain. For example, it is said that from all pleasant feelings, desire increases, and from all suffering, hatred arises. All contaminated pleasant feelings are definitely pleasant, and by intentionally contemplated actions, one will definitely experience only the ripening of suffering, and so on. That which has a characteristic but no distinction is established as having a distinction, or that which has a distinctive characteristic is established as having no distinction. For example, for conditioned phenomena, whatever has a distinctive characteristic is also established as unconditioned. Whatever has a non-distinctive characteristic for unconditioned phenomena is also established as conditioned, like that. Just as with conditioned and unconditioned, so too with forms and formless phenomena, with the visible and the obstructive, with the non-obstructive, with the contaminated and the uncontaminated, and so forth, one should understand accordingly. Even for that which only has characteristics, it is established as a characteristic that is not included in the reasoning of cause and effect. For example, the result of good conduct becomes unpleasant, and the result of bad conduct becomes pleasant. By wrongly practicing the Dharma and Vinaya that are wrongly spoken, it becomes pure, and by correctly practicing the Dharma and Vinaya that are well spoken, it becomes completely defiled. The establisher establishes the characteristic that is not completely established as the characteristic that is completely established by the establisher. For example, for all inexpressible dharmas,

Furthermore, to truly establish the ultimate meaning, that which is in accordance with it should be regarded as contradictory in nature. The opposite of this is non-contradictory in nature. This is called non-contradictory in nature, and it is known as a reliable source of testimony. When all phenomena abide in their respective dharma-nature, and are established abiding in their respective self-nature, why is it necessary to declare two aspects of what should be established? This is to generate trust in others, not to generate self-nature. Why is it that one first vows to establish what should be established? This is to fully reveal the meaning of what is desired and thought in this way. Why establish with reasoning? This is to make others accept the meaning of the vow by means of the reasoning that relies on what is seen. Why give an example? This is to show that what is seen is the very place of reasoning. Why establish similarity, dissimilarity, direct perception, inference, and reliable testimony? This is to fully show the knowledge of contradiction and non-contradiction between reasoning and example. Contradiction should also be understood in two ways: uncertain and similar to what is to be established. Non-contradiction can only be understood in two ways: uniquely certain and the difference of what is to be established. Wherever there is contradiction, it is not established by vow, because it is not valid cognition, so it is not valid cognition. Wherever there is no contradiction, it is established by vow, because it is valid cognition, so it is called valid cognition, which is called the place of speaking. What is the adornment of speech? That should be observed from five aspects: namely, knowing one's own and others' tenets, the complete combination of words, fearlessness, reliance, and non-refutation. What is knowing one's own and others' tenets? For example, here some people are particularly fond of the Dharma-Vinaya, and with regard to the scriptures, tenets, and philosophical systems, they recite, rejoice, listen, think, fully mature, become proficient through practice, and become familiar with words.
