The cultivation of the noble path leads to freedom from these four kinds of suffering. Just as encountering suffering, tending towards permanence, again taking on the karma of existence, and being difficult to liberate from, should be regarded similarly. These four types of individuals should be understood as encompassing all beings: ordinary individuals, those who desire to learn but have not abandoned desire, those who desire to learn and have abandoned desire, and the non-learners who have completely transcended cyclic existence. There are also four types of individuals: those who abide in discipline themselves but do not teach the Dharma to others; those who do not abide in discipline themselves but do teach the Dharma to others; those who do both; and those who do neither. There are four types of individuals: those of low birth who practice all virtuous deeds; those of noble birth who practice all sinful deeds; those of low birth who practice all sinful deeds; and those of noble birth who practice all virtuous deeds. Among them, the first suffers in this life but not in the next. The second suffers in the next life but not in this life. The third suffers in both lives. The fourth enjoys happiness in both lives. Again, there are four types of individuals: those who subject themselves to suffering but not others, such as those who do not accumulate merit, like severe ascetics. Those who subject others to suffering but not themselves, such as those who do not uphold vows. Those who subject both to suffering and also accumulate non-meritorious deeds, such as a king offering many sacrifices for the birth of horses. Those who do not subject themselves or others to suffering and also accumulate meritorious deeds, such as individuals who abide in meditation and abandon all sins. The faults of speech, in brief, are fourfold: falsehood, divisive speech, meaningless speech, and idle chatter. The opposite of these should be understood as virtues. The false speech of non-nobles, in brief, is fourfold: not seeing or speaking perversely as if not seeing, discriminating after hearing

Furthermore, consciousness should be understood in the same way. Conversely, know that this is the word of the noble truth. The fourth part of the knowable objects of the Buddha's teachings is complete. These five are the aggregates of formations belonging to all afflictions, entering by following the evil destinies of desire and attachment: namely, the aggregates of formations that are the nature of the support and the object; and the nature of experience; and because of the complete severance of the occasion of terms, the nature of apprehending signs; and the nature of behavior; and the aggregates of formations that are the nature of the object of focus. The five that are the opposite of these, know that they are the aggregates of formations that are free from the evil destinies of desire and attachment, and belong to the reversal and purification. These five are the objects to be desired by those with desire, for the sake of being fully sought and enjoyed, and the things to be accurately examined by those who do not incline towards desire, namely: forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects. Among these, starting from the things to be sought, to be examined, and to be especially clung to, know that there are four kinds of things to be desired. Among these, the future thing to be desired is seeking. The past is constant. What is happening now is what should be especially clung to. And there are two kinds of that: the thing to be desired, and the feeling born from it to be desired. These five are the places where beings obtain bodies in order to closely experience the ripening of the fruits of pleasant and unpleasant actions: namely, the realms of gods and humans, and sentient beings in hell, and animals, and hungry ghosts. Accumulating the cause of gain, and not inclining towards nirvana, should be understood in five ways: where it is enjoyed, from where it is gained, what is gained, for what it is gained, and how it is gained, namely: whatever the mind universally grasps in these places. These five dharmas are the discipline of yogis, and the harm to listening that precedes calm abiding, and what is incompatible with higher vision, namely: attachment to desires, and incitement, and mindfulness.
