One should strive diligently. These three are the places of bondage for beings' attachment, hatred, and ignorance, and also the occasions for reliance. They bind beings imprisoned in the cycle of existence with firm bonds. There is neither benefit, nor harm, nor equality. Chapter Sixteen. The suffering of beings is summarized by three places of suffering: arising from encounter, arising from separation, and constantly existing. Among these, the first is encountering circumstances that cause harm. The second is complete transformation from what brings benefit. The third is summarized by the evil destinies that exist in all circumstances, because all actions arise in such a way. For this, only noble ones give rise to the thought of suffering, but ordinary people do not. These three are incompatible with the continuous efforts of those who strive to attain the practice of asceticism, because being arrogant obstructs the practice of asceticism and does not lead to attainment. Comparing oneself with others, being arrogant with the thought "I am stronger," as well as the thought "I am equal," and the thought "I am weaker." It should be known that all actions have three seeds: fruit already produced, fruit not yet produced, and fruit near at hand. These three are the basis of the terminology of actions: what has already happened, what will happen, and what is present. All characteristics of form are contained in three characteristics: color, shape, and the place of action. What is apprehended by eye consciousness, and forms other than that which go towards those directions, and the forms of the senses that obscure the place, and all the forms of objects. If all these are gathered together, it should be known that there are ten kinds of forms. The form of the meditative state is the form that is used to attain samadhi and accomplish transformation. Becoming the object of one's own transformation mind, it is the fruit of the transformation mind not yet fully perfected.

These three are associated with afflictions and their consequences: the mind of an ordinary person, the mind of a learner who has not fully completed their training, and the mind of a learner who has fully completed their training. These three are ways of listening to the Dharma: seeking the Dharma and its meaning, being unable to comprehend, being able to hear but not comprehend, and being able to both hear and comprehend. For yogis who seek to transform the impermanent body, speech, and mind into the permanent, the initial practices to be understood are three: breathing, the elements, and thoughts and analysis, perception and thinking. These three are particularly excellent and worthy of respect: superiority in age, superiority in lineage, and superiority in qualities. These three are the causes that reside in the definite and the indefinite. Among them, two are definite, and one is indefinite. Definite descent into the lower realms is due to the karma of the five heinous crimes. Definite progress to the higher realms and nirvana is due to the uncontaminated conditioned dharmas. Those that are not these are indefinite. In order to maintain the teachings, there are three ways in which faults are contradicted and mutually accused: actions of body and speech that violate the precepts are made manifest, hearing from others, and understanding from other signs. The proclamation of the three unguarded aspects of the Tathagata himself is to truly encourage those externalist teachers, those who are empty inside but claim to be omniscient, in order to generate confidence in themselves that they are truly omniscient. These three arise from clinging to false appearances, like a great fire that consumes sentient beings: the burning of desire, the burning of sorrow, and the burning of perversion. These three are for the sake of ensuring that the offerings made by sentient beings who desire merit but mistakenly worship external fires do not become futile, therefore, things that are not fire are referred to by the name of fire: parents, children, wives, and objects of offering. Higher rebirth...
